Postcards | Amsterdam

[dropcap custom_class=”normal”]W[/dropcap]hile I was in college, my closest friend from high school went to Den Haag to study art. It wasn’t until my junior year that I was able to go to The Netherlands to visit her. It was my first time out of the country, which makes makes The Netherlands even more special to me. (That and Dutch ancestry on my mom’s side of the family.) When we booked our summer trip to Brussels, I just had to add a daytrip to Amsterdam to the itinerary. It was $80 roundtrip on the Thalys with a 6 a.m. departure time. We arrived in Amsterdam two hours later and set off to explore the city. We kept the agenda fairly open, which allowed for plenty of time to wander around the city, visit the Rijksmuseum, add a piece of Delftware to my collection, and stop at Banketbakkerij Lanskroon for the best stroopwafel ever.

[dropcap custom_class=”normal”]M[/dropcap]any of J.Crew’s pieces are too ostentatious for my taste, so I was happily surprised to stumble across this understated necklace on Net-a-Porter. It’s not on the brand’s website yet, but it’s worth keeping an eye out for. The sparsely placed lilac crystals add just enough interest to the sleek choker.

Her work is basically what you’d expect to find in the jewelry box of a glamorous globetrotter with finely wrought architectural details and a colorful array of semiprecious stones. One of my top picks for the season is the beautiful Acanthus Cuff (above), which was featured in the October 2014 issue of Vogue. I also love every piece in the opulent Baroque collection.

Just yesterday I neglected to peek at Weather Underground and scampered off to work in a pair of ballet flats only to find myself dashing through a downpour after work. My car wasn’t far away, but it was still enough time for my shoes to fill with water (and if you think an evening commute is bad, try it with wet, cold feet). That miserable experience offered plenty of motivation to arm myself with an arsenal of rainy day attire that can handle the chilly precipitation, starting with a pair of Joules rain boots.

I already own a pair Joules wellies in turquoise, which I adored last winter, but I’d love to add a more subdued pair to my wardrobe in either olive or black. The glossy finish pairs well with classic, sophisticated items. Try a cropped quilted jacket and a menswear-inspired scarf for a casual look or go glam with a faux fur scarf (it also comes in the prettiest emerald green) and a cozy wool coat. Whatever you do, make sure you stick with a saffiano leather purse. The textured finish repels water and keeps the bag looking pristine.

Outfit | Fall Floral

[dropcap custom_class=”normal”]T[/dropcap]his Ted Baker skirt was my first purchase for fall and it has already become one of my favorites. The dark floral print is stunning and the skirt is impeccably made with a crinoline lining to help keep it’s flouncy shape all day. Beyond that–and most importantly–I feel pretty and confident in it, which really should be the litmus test for any new wardrobe addition.
