Behind the Baubles: Golden Thread
The arrowhead necklace in yesterday’s post doesn’t even begin to illustrate the array of pendants and other customizable gems available at Golden Thread. Jennifer Welker, a former neonatal nurse, launched the collection in 2010 focusing on luxe pieces that could be personalized by layering, adding a monogram, incorporating a birthstone and even choosing a preferred metal color to create a signature piece as unique as the woman wearing it. Her collection has been featured on NBC’s Today show and in the pages of top publications, such as InStyle, People StyleWatch and Redbook magazines.

Summer Strands
I know I should appreciate spring rain, but five days of drizzle last week left me so desperate for warm weather that I’ve been seeking out summer in unlikely places. First, there was a Gray Malin splurge as an early birthday present for myself. (The Bondi Beach print is the first piece of “real” art that Dave and I have agreed on. Milestone moment, yes?) Then, a pair of pendants that invoke a day at the beach: a KALAN by Suzanne Kalan gem in an oceany hue and a delicate arrowhead necklace from Golden Thread. I’ll admit that an arrowhead motif was a bit out of my comfort zone, but I’m glad I branched out. The attention to detail is really quite impressive (as you’ll see in the photos, the front and back of the pendant are both carefully designed) and the designer is an absolute gem (you’ll learn more about her in tomorrow’s “Behind the Baubles”). It’s the first thing I’m packing for our next sandy escape.

Bauble of the Week
Kenneth Jay Lane, $95
You should really click through to see just how large this necklace is on the model. The oversize pendant would look incredible with short shift dresses and the season’s must-have flats.
Loving Lately
Lately, I’m loving:
- This breathtaking necklace that Patile from KALAN by Suzanne Kalan sent to me. It’s one of the prettiest pieces in my jewelry box. (Patile is planning to add e-commerce capabilities to her site in the coming months, which is going to be dangerous for jewelry lovers everywhere. Until then, you can get your fix at Nordstrom.)
- The official start of Birthday Month, which was the only excuse I needed to buy the Tory Burch scarf that’s been featured in my sidebar for weeks. (Now I need a scarf tutorial more than ever…)
- Mint juleps and microbrews. The Kentucky Derby is the only sporting event I can fully get behind. You’ll find me cheering for the Run for the Roses on Saturday with a mint julep in hand. (Served in the silver-plated julep cups we purchased in Louisville, naturally.) It’s also the start of Madison’s Craft Beer Week, so don’t be put off by any hops-related Instagrams over the next few days. Cheers!
