Bauble of the Week

Remember when I was so excited to see Tory Burch’s monkey earrings available for pre-order? They’re finally available along with this monkey necklace. It’s not cheap at $450, but it is a conversation piece you’ll  keep forever.  (That said, I’m still seriously considering the earrings.)

This pair of ear jackets by Katie Diamond Jewelry is the perfect mix of femininity and boho-glam. Topped off with a pretty pink opal, the design was inspired by Egyptian phoenix motifs.

Julie Vos is having her semi-annual sample sale right now! If you’ve been waiting to order something, you’re in luck. All sale items are now an additional 25% off with code EXTRA25. It’s a great opportunity to stock up on accessories for any warm-weather vacations you have planned. (The Phoenix Pendant would look stunning with breezy summer dresses … nudge, nudge.)

I rarely post J.Crew jewelry because I generally think your money is better spent elsewhere. However, I’m completely on board with this Art Deco necklace. Unlike many J.Crew pieces that have glass or plastic “stones,” real aventurine is set in the brass necklace. Take an extra 40% off the sale price with code SHOPNOW to bring the price under $60.

The challenge with reasonably priced fine jewelry is that most brands opt for simple everyday gems (Vrai & Oro does them beautifully). There aren’t many jewelers who can marry an unexpected design with precious metals and still come in at a price that isn’t astronomical. Dannijo’s new fine jewelry collection accomplishes this with its all-gold pieces. (The diamond options are significantly pricier.) The Spinelli ear jacket is my favorite. It has the brand’s signature irreverence with a delicate touch and gives you the option of replacing the center stud with a favorite from your own collection. I imagine it looks darling with a diamond center or a colorful gemstone. It’s still an investment at $325, but the versatility is worth it.

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
