Linking Up: Fashionistas in Flats

August 7, 2013 by jessica Leave a Comment

I’m linking up with La Petite Pear today for Sam’s “Fashionistas in Flats” series to share why I’m smitten with flat shoes. Although, I’ll admit my love of flats is second to that of this camera case. I fell for Rebecca Minkoff’s vintage-meets-modern DSLR bag during last year’s fashion week. (I’m sure you remember the street style photos of bloggers toting their monogrammed versions of the case.) It popped up on Gilt last week and after checking the dimensions of my camera for the umpteenth time, I clicked the “purchase” button and couldn’t be happier.

Perhaps I’m going a bit overboard with the mint-meets-grass-green hue that I love so much, but this monochromatic look is as close to a daytime romper as I’ll get. (The bathroom logistics freak me out too much to try one.) I was actually saving this shirt for fall (hopefully to wear with this skirt), but I couldn’t keep it tucked away any longer when it matched the Kendra Scott earrings from SusanB. If you haven’t heard of SusanB, check it out. It’s an online jewelry store with great fashion jewelry from classic styles to designer pieces, all at affordable price points. Stop by tomorrow for a chance to win your own pair of these fabulous earrings!

Easy, Breezy

As much as I’d like to be an effortless beauty in the summer, barely glistening as the humidity skyrockets, I’m not. I’m usually preoccupied with my lifeless hair (which, by the way, is curled in that photo) and slathering on sunscreen in fear of irreparable sun damage. And then I discovered this tunic. Who knew that putting on more fabric would be cooler than itty bitty tank tops? Lilly Pulitzer, that’s who.

In other news, the Shoshanna white dress I hoped would be “the one” didn’t work out. The shape was lovely, but the fabric wrinkled awkwardly on the sides of my chest. It would look better on a gal with more up top to fill it out.

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

• Spent quality time with my favorite cat

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
