Review: Daniel Wellington Watch

December 21, 2012 by jessica Leave a Comment

I’ve always loved how oversize chronograph watches look on women, but nothing matches the refined elegance of a Daniel Wellington watch.

Before I even received the watch for review, I was taken with the story of the company’s history:

The story behind Daniel Wellington begins with a trip half way around the globe where Filip Tysander, the founder of Daniel Wellington, met an intriguing gentleman from the British Isles. The man had the inspiring ability to be gentlemanly but still relaxed and unpretentious. He had an impeccable style, and loved to wear his Rolexes on old weathered Nato straps, which he’d kept from his years in the British army. His name? Well, Daniel Wellington, of course.

I was given the “Classic St. Andrews” watch in rose gold and the style really does live up to its namesake. The large watch face (36 mm diameter) has the irreverence of wearing a men’s watch, but it’s done in a beautifully understated way. The strap already has the patina of a well-loved piece. It’s a bit rigid, but it’s starting to become more pliable with continued wear. (Which won’t be a problem, since it has already become my go-to timepiece.)

When I get home from work, I’m in loungewear within minutes. The mail can wait. The cat can wait. But pajamas can not. (Really, it’s for the best that I don’t work from home. I’m not sure how often I’d wear publicly acceptable duds.)

And if you include nautical stripes, you know we have a winner. Eberjey sent this charming set to me before our trip to Kentucky – and it immediately made its way into my luggage. I hadn’t had personal experience with Eberjey’s line before, but I was eager to try it … and now I’m hooked. The fabric is unimaginably soft. The cut is perfectly feminine and it’s ultra flattering. I don’t think I’ve ever felt this pretty in pajamas before.

I don’t see my set online, but this one is similar and you can browse the full line of chemises here.

Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
