Wardrobe Welcome

October 10, 2014 by jessica 6 Comments

shoesv3

So I may have gone to a beer fest last weekend and I may have had a little too much to drink and I may have ordered a pair of shoes. Cobalt snakeskin flats, in fact.

They also come in black or natural, if you’re into that sort of thing.

If there was ever a time to shop the weekly “Currently Coveting” post, this is it. Everything featured is under $175, including this gorgeous sequin skirt which is a great alternative to the one featured here. I also have my eye on this budget-friendly dress. I was originally considering it in black, but the print is awfully fun.

For those of you who don’t know about my day job, I’m an event manager for a local business magazine. We have our annual B2B expo coming up in two weeks and I’m running around like mad trying to get everything checked off my to-do list. (It’s this time of year that Dave calls me “Stressica” instead of Jessica.) Please forgive me for any unexpected silences and know that I’m finding comfort in the new Tory Burch flats I ordered on Saturday (a purchase fueled by that afternoon’s beer fest). I’m counting down the minutes until they arrive today.

Was anyone awake to see the lunar eclipse the other night? I’m bummed I missed it!

Review | Moleskine Voyageur

[dropcap custom_class=”normal”]I[/dropcap] have a romanticized vision of traveling overseas and penning endless observations in a journal each night. And, try as I might, I’m just not that kind of girl. I’m more likely to return to the hotel armed with an iPhone full of photos and a purse brimming with receipts, ticket stubs, and coasters. However, the new Moleskine Voyageur notebook takes a unique approach to travel journals, offering flexibility and plenty of features to satisfy various journaling–and travel–styles.

  • The worrywart will find comfort at the beginning of the book. There’s a place for personal data, local emergency numbers listed by country, time zones, and a reference for local dialing codes. Other must-haves can be tucked in the interior back pocket.
  • The planner will appreciate detachable packing and to-do lists.
  • The social media maven will love the removable paper band that features “I AM HERE” written on the reverse side. It’s ideal for destination selfies and Instagrams tagged #m_IAmHere.
  • The serious traveler is no match for the journal’s sturdy canvas cover.
  • The perfectionist will gravitate to the online tool to format itineraries, photos, and journal entries to print and paste into the Voyageur.

I’m taking the latter approach (mostly because I was such a lazy writer on vacation) and am using the journal as a scrapbook. I’ve been sifting through mementos and recalling obscure stories to include along side of some of my favorite Instagrams.

[dropcap custom_class=”normal”]M[/dropcap]adison now has its very own Nordstrom Rack and I couldn’t be more excited for a new place to spend my paycheck, even if opening weekend was chaotic. The staff was overwhelmed (but sweet), the place was packed, and a woman ran over my foot with a stroller. It was all worth it when I came across an unimaginably soft and warm Theory sweater that I’m planning to hibernate in until spring. The discounted price of $130 (down from $375) was just icing on the cake.

Speaking of discounts, Julie Vos, one of my favorite jewelers, is offering 20% off any purchase with code bedknobsandbaubles to celebrate the launch of her new website. It’s a fantastic opportunity to update your jewelry box or spoil a few people on your holiday shopping list with jewelry and scarves. The pearl Antwerp Earrings are elegant and come to just $88 after the discount (perfect for that aunt who surprises you with an unexpected gift).

Bauble of the Week

[dropcap custom_class=”normal”]T[/dropcap]ory Burch’s Friends & Family promotion runs through Monday and I’m tempted to check off a few wish list items, like these earrings, with the 25% discount (code: FRIENDLIEST). The pearl trend is still going strong and these have such a charming vintage twist. That said, I feel like I should err on the more practical side with my purchases and I’m incredibly bummed this bag is no longer available in navy. I’m contemplating the mini version, which actually might work out well since I hate toting too much with me anyway. I’m also smitten with this dress for work, this jacket, (the back has unexpected polka dot pleats!), and a pair of cobalt flats that made my heart skip a beat.

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
