INTRODUCING | VRAI & ORO

July 8, 2014 by jessica Leave a Comment

You may have spotted this gorgeous ring in yesterday’s post. It’s by a relatively new brand called Vrai & Oro, a fine jewelry retailer that offers simple, delicate staples you’ll want to wear everyday. Vrai & Oro cuts out the middleman—and the normal retail markup of eight to ten times the original value—for fine jewelry sales, allowing the brand to offer ethically produced, high quality jewelry at prices you can actually afford (something that’s not always possible with fine jewelry). Think of them as Everlane’s shinier cousin. The piece above was created for Vrai & Oro’s insiders and can be purchased at this secret page on their site. The sterling silver version is just $65. It’s also available in solid gold for $415. (It’s a weighty piece. You’re definitely getting your money’s worth.) I’m planning to feature the ladies behind the brand tomorrow, but I urge you to browse the site in the meantime. I’m smitten with the gold line stud earrings and the dainty diamond baguette necklace in rose gold.

The ring was gifted to me for purposes of this post. Rest assured that the brand’s generosity does not influence my opinion of the product or its quality. Some images within this post are borrowed from Vrai & Oro’s Instagram feed.

BAUBLE OF THE WEEK

Ashley Childs, prices vary

Ever since I stumbled across Ashley Childs’ work on Instagram, I’ve been smitten with the movement of these delicate chain maille mesh pendants. The sculptural pieces come in various sizes from a dainty silver pendant to a triple layered statement piece (my favorite).

BAUBLE OF THE WEEK

Loren Stewart, $295

I have a soft spot for emeralds, my birthstone, but I have yet to add the green gem to my collection. I assumed my first emerald would be a sparkly, finely cut piece, but I’m actually quite drawn to the organic shapes of this dainty ring by Loren Stewart. The band features an emerald, opal and diamond set on a 14k gold band. (There’s also a turquoise version.)

BEHIND THE BAUBLES: RACHAEL RYEN JEWELRY

June 25, 2014 by jessica Leave a Comment

As I continue to shop for my own jewelry collection, I find myself shunning fast fashion accessories and opting for the pieces that will last a lifetime—a difficult task on a limited budget. Fortunately designer Rachael Byers sought to fill that void in the marketplace. “It was difficult to find a beautiful, genuine stone that wasn’t set in solid gold with a price to match. The fine jewelry was overly traditional and the costume and fashion jewelry was cheaply made or way too trendy to invest in,” she explained. Rachael began using design techniques of fine jewelry to create 14k gold vermeil, gold-filled and sterling silver jewelry punctuated by vibrant, colorful semi-precious gemstones and diamonds, and in 2011, the Rachael Ryen Jewelry Collection was launched.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
