I hope you’re enjoying a wonderfully cozy day with family and friends! Happy Thanksgiving!

xoxo,
Jessica

And if you’re curious about the items above, I’m wearing a J.Crew sweater, Julie Vos ring (c/o), and a Monica Vinader ring that was a Black Friday gift to myself last year. The mug is an old one from Target. I’ll be spiking its contents later today. 😉

Newly Minted

At this point, purchasing a wool winter coat isn’t fulfilling any sort of “need” in my wardrobe. I have plenty of them as a Wisconsin resident. What I don’t have — and should have been shopping for — is an insulated parka from The North Face that I can bring along to Iceland if that happens next year. However, the [newly conjured] dream of owning a peacoat in my favorite color wasn’t going unrealized when this beauty went on sale at J.Crew. Dave gave me the black version of the peacoat a couple of years ago for Christmas. It’s one of my winter staples, so I knew the mint version would get just as much love and would be a welcome splash of color on winter’s dreariest days. Besides, when you live in a cold climate and wear winter coats a third of the year, you can never really have too many options. (At least that’s what I’m telling myself!)

If you buy one item this month…

Black Turtleneck Sweater

…make it a black turtleneck sweater.

A slim-knit turtleneck, particularly in merino wool, is a timeless piece that looks chic with everything from jeans to dress pants to skirts. It may not be the most exciting item in your wardrobe, but it’ll give you a lot of mileage throughout the season. It’s a blank canvas to show off a major statement necklace like this one. It lends a classic elegance to an on-trend metallic pleated skirt. (I’m eager to try this budget-friendly option.) And, it layers seamlessly under your fall dresses so that you can wear them into winter. (I’ve been doing just that with this dress and a pair of tights.) There are plenty of options to choose from to suit your budget and taste, as linked in the widget below, but my favorite is this one from Banana Republic. It’s a soft, thin knit that isn’t sheer and has just the right amount of stretch.

Spark Joie

The last thing my wardrobe needed was another dress, especially a dark floral frock when I’ve already been adding them to my closet with abandon this season. But you know what? Sometimes you just have to stick with what works for you. I’m a dress die-hard and I knew I had to have this little Joie number the moment I spotted it. I adore the feminine ruffles along the shoulders and the whisper-thin silk chiffon that catches the wind just right. (There’s a slim-fit slip underneath that keeps you from having a Marilyn Monroe moment, which I definitely had with a different dress recently. So embarrassing!) There aren’t many days left where I can go without tights, but this dress is just as cute with tights and a turtleneck sweater layered underneath for a winterized version of the look.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
