July 1, 2014 by jessica Leave a Comment

image

  • Celebrated Bacon’s sixth birthday
  • Dipped my toes in the pool
  • Added this Lulu Frost pendant to my collection
  • Surprised by this sunny Gerard Yosca necklace, a birthday gift from the designer (Thank you!)
  • Finally used my last Christmas gift card to buy a gorgeous pair of Tory Burch shoes
  • Enjoyed rooftop drinks with my birthday gift still in tow
  • Brought out this ridiculous Lilly Pulitzer koozie at the pool (purchased on eBay)
  • Found the easiest summer dress (it’s now sold out, but here’s the link in case it pops back)
  • Played dress up while organizing the mess of jewels in my side of the dresser (rings from Julie Vos, YSL and a vintage ring from Frippery Vintage)

SHIFTY

June 30, 2014 by jessica Leave a Comment

Shift dresses are usually pretty unfortunate on my frame, stretching unforgivingly across my hips and clinging to the wrong places. Despite that, I still fell for this dress at Piperlime and decided to give it a whirl (it’s already sold out, but this one is similar). Aside from the rancid smell right out of the package (as I mentioned here), the dress is pretty fantastic with plenty of room through the hips (phew!). I have no doubt that this easy-to-throw-on piece is going to get plenty of wear this summer.

On another note, would you believe that I curled my hair for these photos? I. Hate. Humidity.

BAUBLE OF THE WEEK

June 29, 2014 by jessica Leave a Comment

Loren Stewart, $295

I have a soft spot for emeralds, my birthstone, but I have yet to add the green gem to my collection. I assumed my first emerald would be a sparkly, finely cut piece, but I’m actually quite drawn to the organic shapes of this dainty ring by Loren Stewart. The band features an emerald, opal and diamond set on a 14k gold band. (There’s also a turquoise version.)

IN THE DETAILS

Designer duds are normally the most prized in my wardrobe, but it’s not because of the name brand. It’s the attention to detail that wins me over. Take this pair of Tory Burch sandals, for instance. They’re not for everyone and they hurt like hell, but I’m crazy about ‘em (as long as I don’t have far to walk).

CURRENTLY COVETING

June 26, 2014 by jessica Leave a Comment

My weekly “Currently Coveting” post usually includes splurges that I can’t afford, so I challenged myself to create a board of only items under $100 proving (to myself) that style doesn’t have to cost a fortune.

1. Samudra, $65 | 2. NARS, $20 | 3. Pim + Larkin, $98* | 4. Shashi, $35 | 5. Gorjana, $40 | 6. Madewell, $12.50 | 7. J.Crew, $69.50** | 8. Heather Hawkins, $88 | 9. Topshop, $70 | 10. J.Crew, $55**

*The review for this dress is terrible, but I bought it and love it. Finally, a shift dress that looks good on girls with hips. I went with my regular size (medium) and it fits perfectly. The only downside is that the dress smells rancid right out of the package. Most of the smell faded after one wash and a generous spritz of Febreeze.

**Take 30% off of the J.Crew items with code HISUMMER. The discount ends tomorrow.

It’s so nice to be home after a whirlwind week. It’s so nice to be home after a whirlwind week. We flew out to Philadelphia last Friday for a few days of exploring. It was our first time in the City of Brotherly Love and we loved every minute of it from the architecture to the restaurants, and most of all: the welcoming and friendly people. After that, we had one night at home before a flight to Denver to celebrate my cousin’s wedding. We got back to Madison late last night and have spent the day puttering around the house, getting caught up on laundry, grocery shopping, harvesting the season’s first tomatoes from the garden, and admiring just how much the hydrangeas have grown in the course of a week.
I always get a kick out of comparing views of our I always get a kick out of comparing views of our home today to the photos I took during our home inspection. (Swipe to see our main bedroom then!) While I knew the house had potential, it was hard to look past some of the owner’s “design” choices. Though, it looks like the room was destined to have a warm-toned quilt. 😂

P.S. @schoolhouse just released new colors of their popular Stillwater Floral Quilt!

And, for those interested, I’ve linked my bedroom items here: https://liketk.it/5iC8R

It also inadvertently became the weekend I made Dave eat a cheeseburger every day, between @redhotranchchicago, @eatmottst, and @smallcheval. There are worst ways to spend a weekend.

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.
