Behind the Brand: Megan Hess

Megan Hess’ illustrations celebrate femininity with a body of work that captures the allure of fashion, the elegance of women wearing the clothes and, at times, the striking interiors inspired by those designs. It’s no wonder that clients such as Chanel, Dior, Tiffany & Co. and Vogue have flocked to her! I’m most drawn to the illustrations rich with turquoise-blue hues: The Chic Hotelier, The Luxurious Spa and the supple Italian Riviera silk scarf.

Loving Lately

Lately, I’m loving:

  • Rifle Paper Co. phone cases. I purchased each of these on sale from Anthropologie. There aren’t many cases prettier than the gold iPhone itself, but these do the trick.
  • The killer Zoya nail polish promotion that ends tonight. You can get three bottles of polish for “free” ($12 shipping). I haven’t tried the brand before, but it seems like a good excuse to give it a whirl. I ordered Blu, Maya and Ibiza.
  • Our newly organized pantry. I know it’s such a mundane task, but organizing the shelves, tossing expired food, and discovering staples hidden in the back instantly made our kitchen feel organized. I’m loosely doing Apartment Therapy’s “January Cure” and it’s giving me a much-needed kick in the rear to get our place in order.
  • This pair of Tory Burch wedges. They’re unlike anything else I own and I’m crazy about them. They’ll definitely be my 2014 “Tax Return Splurge,” but not from the Tory Burch site where they’re listed at $325. Other retailers have them for $295. They also come in an all-black version at Bergdorf Goodman.

Bauble of the Week

January 12, 2014 by jessica Leave a Comment

I don’t know about you, but I’m more than ready for warm weather shopping. (The polar vortex and Friday’s freezing rain did me in.) This pair of Miguel Ases earrings is part of Astley Clarke’s end-of-season sale, but the opalite drops are ideal for languid summer days.

Outfitted

Even though I’ve already shed some of the holiday weight, this loose dress is still the only thing that feels comfortable. It’s just a bonus that there are cats printed all over it … which some people have mistaken for skulls. I don’t see it, but now it’s basically the dress version of a Rorschach test. Which do you see?

Dress: Anthropologie // Bag: J.Crew // Scarf: Hermes // Bracelet: Hermes // Rings: gifted Cynthia Jones, Melanie Auld // Tights: Calvin Klein // Shoes: Kate Spade

Currently Coveting

January 9, 2014 by jessica Leave a Comment

I didn’t intend to create an outfit when I started working on this post, but doesn’t it look like an ideal weekend ensemble? There’s a ton of interesting details on the classic pieces, but a Topshop beanie and a pair of Converse sneakers (available at Treds) keeps it playful.

1. St. James, $85 // 2. Ray-Ban, $160 // 3. Vanessa Mooney, $195 // 4. Converse, £45 // 5. Topshop, $24 // 6. Botkier, $195 // 7. Elizabeth Cole, $73 // 8. J.Crew, $98

This is a PR collaboration, but all opinions are my own. Thanks for supporting the brands that support Bedknobs & Baubles!

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

• Spent quality time with my favorite cat

• Biked for Pacificos, chips and quac, and tacos at @bandit.tacos

• Loved how the rain collected on the Lady’s Mantle I planted last year

• Dipped my toes (quite literally) into this year’s mesh shoe trend

• Snapped a lot of Lily content

• Drove home with a new lilac in the passenger seat

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
