Bauble of the Week

January 5, 2014 by jessica Leave a Comment

After purchasing a Tory Burch necklace* and a Karen Hsiang ring in December, I need to hold off on adding another piece to my jewelry box. However, I’m bookmarking this gorgeous ring for when the urge strikes. I can’t resist an unconventional way to wear pearls.

*I ordered it through Net-a-Porter for 70% off, but it arrived badly damaged. They were able to locate another one through their Asian store. Hopefully the new one arrives safely from Hong Kong.

Behind the Baubles: Sarah Magid

Based in NYC, jewelry designer Sarah Magid has 15 years of experience designing for brands like Henri Bendel, Coach, J.Crew, and Etienne Aigner—but I think we can all be grateful that she eventually branched out on her own. She masterfully mixes brightly colored stones with sculptural metalwork to create pieces that can best be described as art. (Heck, I’m just as crazy for those pink crazy lace studs as I am for the larger jewels.)

Currently Coveting

January 2, 2014 by jessica Leave a Comment

If I really had to edit my wishlist for spring and summer, this would be it: simple silhouettes in neutral colors with unexpected accessories. (Although, I’m also itching for a Clover Canyon dress this spring. The bold patterns are just too good.)

1. Elizabeth & James, $365 // 2. Tory Burch, $195 // 3. Lizzie Fortunato, $610 // 4. J.Crew, $98 // 5. Loeffler Randall, $295 // 6. Diane von Furstenberg, $298 // 7. Gold Philosophy, $152

Happy 2014!

I hope you had a wonderful evening of champagne toasts with your loved ones! Dave and I cozied up on the couch with the cat, Thai food and plenty of bubbly. In short, the perfect way to start a new year.

And what would a New Year’s post be without a list of resolutions for 2014? This year, I will:

  1. Travel somewhere that requires a passport.
  2. Continue with the French Wardrobe concept.
  3. Purchase a new coffee table and the bar cart I wanted last year.
  4. Adhere to my new and improved budget. At age 30, retirement planning is becoming more of a concern.
  5. Splurge on a really incredible piece of jewelry—real or faux.
  6. Learn to cook an amazing pot of beef stew. (If you have a go-to recipe, please send it!)
  7. Shed the holiday weight gained from eating dozens and dozens of cookies.

Mini Moments

December 31, 2013 by jessica Leave a Comment

I can’t believe another year has passed! Here are a few of my favorite snapshots from the last month of 2013:

  • Decked the halls
  • Embraced the snowy weather in a pair of bright wellies from Joules (see the post here)
  • Baked dozens of holiday cookies
  • Drove to my parents’ house in a winter wonderland
  • Prepared for holiday celebrations with confetti poppers
  • Tucked mini bottles of champagne inside holiday packages
  • Unpacked countless boxes of glittery Christmas ornaments
  • Wrote holiday greetings with the prettiest fountain pen from Parker
  • Danced through the holiday season in tartan flats

It also inadvertently became the weekend I made Dave eat a cheeseburger every day, between @redhotranchchicago, @eatmottst, and @smallcheval. There are worst ways to spend a weekend.

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

• Spent quality time with my favorite cat

• Drove home with a new lilac in the passenger seat
