Behind the Baubles: Julie Vos

It’s not a secret that I adore Julie Vos’ jewelry. (Actually, “adore” might be too subtle. “Covet,” “obsessed with” and “head-over-heels for” are more accurate.) Julie expertly mixes colored gemstones with classic styles to create pieces that look like precious souvenirs from a faraway marketplace.

Behind the Baubles: Loren Hope

Created by Loren Barham, Loren Hope is a jewelry line best described as a modern – and colorful! – approach to vintage. An array of rhinestones, semi-precious stones and Czech glass embellish Loren’s hand-crafted designs. It’s almost impossible to choose a favorite from her collection, but the darling sunburst studs in malachite top my list.

Behind the Baubles: ASHA by ADM

Ashley Dodgen McCormick, CEO & Creative Director, ASHA

Ashley Dodgen McCormick started her line in 2005, pulling inspiration from her time living abroad in Florence and Paris while earning her art history degree from Georgetown University. Focusing on top-quality craftsmanship, the artistry of Ashley’s pieces could compete with fine jewelry. I’m particularly drawn to the bone and white topaz pieces for their youthful elegance.

Behind the Baubles: Hassan Bounkit

Hassan Bounkit, Founder of Bounkit

No one creates colorful gems better than Hassan Bounkit, founder of Bounkit. As you see above, his pieces are bold, yet undeniably elegant. Even a pair of simple round studs is given special treatment with an refined setting. I’ve got my eye on a pair of floral studs, but I’m dreaming of these stunners. His work has been featured in major fashion publications, worn by countless celebrities, and featured on television shows like Gossip Girl.

Behind the Baubles: Lele Sadoughi

Lele Sadoughi, Founder

I’m excited to share the first installment of “Behind the Baubles!” This monthly feature will give you insight into the designers behind your favorite jewelry brands and the collections that should be on your radar.

This month, I’d like to introduce you to one of my favorite designers: Lele Sadoughi. Before branching out on her own, Lele gained acclaim by launching J.Crew’s jewelry line back in 2006 and worked with the retailer for five years. Her first independent collection, heavily inspired by ancient Egypt, has already been featured in the nation’s top fashion magazines.

It also inadvertently became the weekend I made Dave eat a cheeseburger every day, between @redhotranchchicago, @eatmottst, and @smallcheval. There are worst ways to spend a weekend.

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

• Spent quality time with my favorite cat

• Biked for Pacificos, chips and quac, and tacos at @bandit.tacos

• Loved how the rain collected on the Lady’s Mantle I planted last year

• Dipped my toes (quite literally) into this year’s mesh shoe trend

• Snapped a lot of Lily content

• Drove home with a new lilac in the passenger seat
