Postcards from Kentucky, Part 1

June 4, 2012 by jessica Leave a Comment

KY003

Louisville’s namesake: King Louis XVI

KY012

We drank plenty of bourbon, including mint juleps at Churchill Downs.

KY008

I almost bet on this horse because of the pretty color it was sporting, but opted for another. The horse I bet on lost, but so did number nine.

KY007

Later, I placed a $5 bet on a winning horse and came away with $11. High risk, high reward.

KY002

I would have loved to stay at 21c, which is a hotel, museum and restaurant rolled into one. The venue has plastic penguins that change location everyday. The second time we walked past the building, there were a dozen lined up on the roof.

KY001

He also mysteriously disappeared the next time we walked past.

KY009

They even used small penguin pins to post the dinner and drink menus outside of the restaurant.

KY005

Artwork extends into Proof on Main, the bar/restaurant of 21c.

KY006

I couldn’t resist a ceramic penguin to bring home. Dave isn’t content with its location on the bookshelf and insists on moving it throughout the house.

The world’s largest baseball bat resides outside of the Louisville Slugger factory and museum.

KY010

The vault holds every bat model that the company has produced.

KY011

Next door, a baseball hits the building housing the Kentucky Mirror & Plate Glass company.

KY004

A statue of Thomas Jefferson given to the city in 1901.
