Gerard Yosca’s Mesa Collection

May 29, 2015 by jessica 4 Comments

MesaIntro10

If it wasn’t already obvious by the Tory Burch tote (seen here) I’ve been using nonstop or the chambray dress I just purchased, I’m all about the ease of earthy colors and relaxed silhouettes this season. So, it’s probably comes as no surprise that Gerard Yosca’s latest jewelry collection, Mesa, captured my heart. The collection’s statement pendants and earrings are inspired by iconic American designs and a muted southwest color palette. It’s a trend that saturated the fall runways, giving you the perfect excuse to splurge on a piece now and wear it throughout this season and the next. Over the next two weeks, my new blog buddy, Cara, and I will be sharing how we wear and love Gerard’s latest collection.

Playing Favorites

Outfit05182015-5

When I was getting dressed on Saturday, Dave asked if I really wanted to take outfit photos of this dress, an item I’ve worn on the blog a couple of times before. Yes, I did. As bloggers, we put too much pressure on ourselves to post new items each week. Not only is it an unrealistic–and financially irresponsible–expectation, it’s boring. I’d much rather see how bloggers rework their favorites to keep them in rotation. So, in that spirit, here’s one of my favorite summer dresses. I love the ease of a loose shift dress, especially with layered jewelry to keep things interesting.

The ring and bracelet are borrowed from Rocksbox, a jewelry subscription service that allows you to try out pieces at your leisure. Once you’re finished, you can purchase your favorites at a discounted rate or swap them out for a new set. Each Rocksbox is $19, but you can get your first month free with code bedknobsandbaublesxoxo. It’s a fun way to try new styles and designers without the investment.

Petals & Pleats

April 6, 2015 by jessica 11 Comments

AprilOutfit1-v2jpg

I bought this dress a few months ago with the intent to wear it during next week’s Florida vacation, but it made an early debut when the mercury rose to 76 degrees. The loose silhouette is perfect for hot days…even if you’re at risk of a Marilyn Monroe moment when the wind picks up! I especially like how the petals of this Gerard Yosca necklace perfectly mimic the pleats in the dress. And, on that note, don’t forget to enter to win your own jewelry set from Gerard Yosca. There’s a daisy pendant and earrings up for grabs here. It’s a prize valued at $252!

Giveaway: Gerard Yosca Flowerball

March 31, 2015 by jessica 8 Comments

GerardYoscaFlowerballDaisyEarrings

Every time Gerard Yosca releases a new collection, I proclaim that it’s my favorite one yet–and Flowerball is no exception. As I mentioned last week, it’s a retro-meets-modern take on spring florals that’s absolutely perfect for this year’s ’70s trend. And, now that spring is finally here to stay, we’re celebrating with a giveaway! One very lucky reader will win a pair of Daisy Post Earrings (see them here) and a Flowerball Pendant. The prize is valued at $252. Good luck!

Gerard Yosca’s Flowerball Collection

March 25, 2015 by jessica 11 Comments

GerardYoscaFlowerball2

Alright, ladies, tax day is three weeks away! Some of you have mentioned that a #TaxReturnSplurge isn’t in the cards this year and, for that, my condolences. (Really, though, kudos. It’s not like any of us should give the government a tax-free loan.) However, if you’re like me and adjust your exemptions to guarantee an annual windfall, it’s time to daydream about a pretty new piece of jewelry to add to your collection (after you’ve taken care of bills and transferred some of that money to your savings account–let’s not be irresponsible).

One of the season’s standout jewelry collections is the latest from Gerard Yosca: Flowerball. The Flowerball collection pays homage to the ’70s in a way that doesn’t feel outdated. By reimagining the decade’s iconic daisy motif, Gerard offers a fresh, playful take on spring’s most prolific trend. You can get a full dose of flower power with a garland of daisies or take a more subtle approach with a pair of button earrings. (Sneak peeks at the earrings here and here.) If the literal take on a daisy isn’t your thing, the petal pieces will be. They’re almost a petal-meets-foliage-meets-feather hybrid that is all too perfect for summer. I’ve been wearing this necklace nonstop, which has a bit of a tropical vibe. I’m also loving this layering piece and these earrings (they have the most delightful movement).

Most of the collection comes in under $200, making a #TaxReturnSplurge on something this beautiful even more reasonable. Personally, I’ve never regretted choosing a piece of jewelry for my annual indulgence. Thoughtfully designed costume jewelry–especially handmade–is so much better than a piece from a mall brand. I’m a costume jewelry snob and I promise you’ll notice the difference in quality and artistry immediately. Find a piece that truly speaks to you and you’ll wear it year after year.

*This dress runs absurdly large. If you’re following on Instagram, you know how bummed I was to return the medium I purchased. I found a small at Bloomingdale’s yesterday morning, so hopefully it’s a better fit. I’m still keeping an eye out for an XS. Please let me know if you spot one. I’m obsessed with this dress and I don’t want it to be another sartorial white whale! (It’s pretty much sold out everywhere, but if you’re also keeping an eye out for returns, here are the links I check each morning: 1, 2, 3, 4.)

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
