The Best $49 You’ll Spend This Season

March 5, 2018 by jessica 2 Comments

Leith Racerback Shift Dress

I’m not going to shut up about this dress anytime soon. Can you blame me, though? For $49, this wardrobe workhorse is the number one item you should add to your spring shopping list. The basic, no-frills shape makes it incredibly versatile. I’ve worn it just like this for work, with sneakers, and to an evening event with my favorite Lele Sadoughi necklace (this one). I love the dress so much that I also ordered the pink one to try. It ended up being kind of sheer, so I’d recommend sticking with the classic black option. (Going with the tried-and-true classics is my favorite budget-friendly tip. It’s hard to tell if something like a little black dress is a cheap thrill. Inexpensive prints and brights typically look cheap, so I save up for pricier versions of those.)

Women's Cocktail Crossbody Bag - Who What Wear

Weekend Links:

  • I didn’t particularly enjoy Savannah when we visited for day trip, but Ashley’s post makes me want to give it another shot.
  • This pineapple purse is equal parts ridiculous and amazing.
  • Thinking about purchasing a Dutch oven? Here’s a comparison between Le Creuset (which I have), Staub, and cheaper alternatives.
  • Lilly Pulitzer is collaborating with Pottery Barn this spring.
  • Seven ways to find inspiration when you’re in a home decor rut.
  • I love this tweed take on a denim jacket.
  • A primer on David Hicks, the inspiration behind Tory Burch’s spring collection. I’m all about this pretty scarf.
  • Flower shops are popping up in chic boutiques everywhere lately.
  • Jewelry designer Ariel Gordon has such a whimsical showroom!
  • Grace takes us on a tour of artist Hunt Slonem’s studio.

Finds Under $50:

  • BaubleBar is having a huge sale with up to 80% off. These ball drop earrings are just $12! I have them in black and turquoise.
  • An extra 40% off sale brings this brass pineapple down to just $15.
  • The gingham purse pictured above.
  • If gingham isn’t your thing, how about a darling pink mini bag?
  • This pretty top would look great with a pair of jeans on the weekend.
  • A halter-neck swimsuit with scalloped trim.

Earlier This Week:

  • Four ways to style a $49 shift dress.
  • Target is launching a new home decor line. I’m all about the rattan chairs.
  • Coveting crisp red and white for spring.

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
