Spring 2013 Jewelry Trends

December 26, 2012 by jessica Leave a Comment

I’m not ready to pack away candy-colored rhinestones just yet, but spring’s jewelry trends certainly are persuasive. Here are three trends to keep an eye on in the coming months:

  • Bohemian Rhapsody: Boho jewels are sure to spark your wanderlust. Try a pair of beaded chandelier earrings by Miguel Ases (on sale) or a unique statement necklace by Lulu Frost.

  • Fringe Benefits: Keeping with the laid back vibe, fringe is back in full force. Opt for this Tinley Road necklace (only $40) or a fringe cuff by Vince Camuto.

  • Heavy Metal: On the opposite side of the spectrum, bold metal baubles aren’t for the faint of heart. Monica Vinader’s rose gold cuff is studded with dazzling pink sapphires. I also recommend a pair of armor studs by Gorjana.

Bauble of the Week

December 23, 2012 by jessica Leave a Comment

I really want to purchase a pair of Bounkit earrings in 2013. I’ve long admired their colorful array of gumdrop-size gems, but the price tag is a bit prohibitive for an impulsive purchase. You can imagine my excitement when I discovered that some of their earrings can actually be worn in multiple ways, like the pair above. Four styles in a single pair help justify the $430 investment.

Review: Alilang Jewelry

December 14, 2012 by jessica Leave a Comment

The holidays are the perfect excuse to pile on the baubles (also my M.O. for the Christmas tree) and purchase new gems. I try to stick to a single new standout piece each season, but I’m easily tempted along the way – especially when it comes to affordable ways to upgrade a look. Alilang is a must-visit resource for jewelry that won’t blow your December budget.

Shopping at Alilang can be a little overwhelming; there are a lot of options to choose from. The time it takes to sift through everything is worthwhile, though. I’m very happy with the quality of the items Alilang sent over for me to try (above). Unlike some other ultra-affordable retailers, the rhinestones are secure and the pieces are free of that telltale metallic smell of a cheap piece. Of the items I tried, the crystal cluster necklace is my favorite. It’s versatile and looks more expensive than $25.

Have you tried anything from Alilang? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Shop It: Bow Ring // Crystal Necklace // Floral Necklace // Owl Ornament

P.S. Head over to La vie…J’aime today to see what I’d like to find in my stocking!

Outfitted

Usually anything that shimmers or glitters tops my list of sartorial standouts, but this pair of “Joanna” heels from ShoeMint have the added perk of being versatile. (That’s not an adjective you’d expect for metallic, bow-topped shoes, right?) They effortlessly polish a cocktail dress or elevate a pair of worn-in jeans.

They’re also my first experience with ShoeMint. If you’re unfamiliar with ShoeMint, here’s the overview: ShoeMint is basically a subscription-based shoe store. When you sign up, you’ll take a style quiz to identify the options best suited to you. After you make your first purchase, you’ll receive a monthly credit for $79.98 (one pair of shoes). However, there’s no obligation to make a monthly purchase and you can cancel at any time. (Bonus: new members receive a 20% discount.)

Even with the opt-out option, I was still hesitant to give it a whirl without seeing the quality first-hand. The ShoeMint team graciously sent over a pair for me to try and you know what? I had nothing to worry about. These shoes are absolutely gorgeous. I suspect a second pair will be on their way soon enough.

(You can also see the “Joanna” pumps at Christine in Color in teal.)

P.S. You’ll have a chance to win a pair of shoes from ShoeMint during the 12 Days of Holiday Giveaways!

It’s so nice to be home after a whirlwind week. It’s so nice to be home after a whirlwind week. We flew out to Philadelphia last Friday for a few days of exploring. It was our first time in the City of Brotherly Love and we loved every minute of it from the architecture to the restaurants, and most of all: the welcoming and friendly people. After that, we had one night at home before a flight to Denver to celebrate my cousin’s wedding. We got back to Madison late last night and have spent the day puttering around the house, getting caught up on laundry, grocery shopping, harvesting the season’s first tomatoes from the garden, and admiring just how much the hydrangeas have grown in the course of a week.
I always get a kick out of comparing views of our I always get a kick out of comparing views of our home today to the photos I took during our home inspection. (Swipe to see our main bedroom then!) While I knew the house had potential, it was hard to look past some of the owner’s “design” choices. Though, it looks like the room was destined to have a warm-toned quilt. 😂

P.S. @schoolhouse just released new colors of their popular Stillwater Floral Quilt!

It also inadvertently became the weekend I made Dave eat a cheeseburger every day, between @redhotranchchicago, @eatmottst, and @smallcheval. There are worst ways to spend a weekend.

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.
