Loving Lately

February 12, 2014 by jessica Leave a Comment

Lately, I’m loving:

  • Layering a dainty heart ring c/o Jane Pope Jewelry with a collection of petite rings from Julie Vos. (I also love this set.)
  • Jack Rodgers’ “Lauren” sandal in bone and black. I’ve heard great things about the brand, but I’m not really keen on their traditional Navajo style. Does anyone own the Lauren version?
  • These adorable Loeffler Randall kitten heels in cobalt blue with, get this, scalloped edges. Scallops get me every time. I’m re-prioritizing my shopping list as we speak.
  • Using some of my Sephora Beauty Insider Points on Smashbox Photo Finish Primer. I was restocking my supply of primer and lotion yesterday and happily discovered that that the larger-than-average sample was up for grabs. It’s always nice when they have something other than fragrance.

Lately, I’m loving:

  • This necklace. And, lucky you, there’s still time to win one of your own.
  • A bubblegum pink skirt from Topshop. Blair wore it yesterday, which makes me assume it’ll look horrid on me. However, the polka dot jacquard is awfully tempting.
  • Finishing my state and federal taxes. Most of my return is dogeared for a vacation, part is going into a Roth IRA, and the rest is going toward this Coach bag (the first Coach bag I’ve liked in years). I don’t own a black day bag yet and this one seems large enough for a DSLR without being unwieldy. (I also received a promotion for $100 off a $300 purchase, so that helps.)
  • The Granny Alphabet by Tim Walker, which was featured on The Sartorialist yesterday. Doesn’t it look charming?

Lately, I’m loving:

  • This delicate arrow necklace from Chloe + Isabel as an alternative to Valentine’s Day heart and lip prints. (But don’t worry, I’ll definitely be wearing my Erin Fetherston lip print dress on Feb. 14.) You can see how the necklace looks on here (so cute, right?) and you can enter to win one of your own here.
  • A couple of new pieces from LOFT. I was sucked in to their 50% off promotion last week and ordered a dress, a striped swimsuit and a floral blouse. The dress is on the thin side and shows every imperfection. It’s also huge. That’s obviously going back. The swimsuit is all kinds of perfect if you order one size up and have a small chest. (The reviewer who said that there’s enough room for an ample bust is a liar. I wear an A-cup and wouldn’t recommend this for anyone over a B.) The blouse was a wildcard add-on just for free shipping, but it turned out to be lovely in person. It’s on the sheer side, so you’ll have to wear a cami at the office.
  • My first Moda Operandi purchase. I just couldn’t say no to these Eddie Borgo earrings, especially when they’re scheduled to arrive around my birthday. (I also earned a nice bonus at work, so they’re a little treat before the rest of the money is allocated to practical things.)

Lately, I’m loving:

  • A fresh bouquet of tulips from the grocery store. They’re my favorite flower and it seems like ages since they’ve been available. Spring must be right around the corner!
  • The Tory Burch shoes I panic purchased. They were starting to sell out in a size 7 at other retailers and I couldn’t risk letting them go. They’re scheduled to arrive today.
  • Delving deeper into research for a Belgian getaway in July. I’m antsy to eat and drink my way through Brussels: mussels, frites, chocolate and beer! All of my favorites! Have you visited the country? Any must-sees that we should add to our itinerary?

Lately, I’m loving:

  • Rifle Paper Co. phone cases. I purchased each of these on sale from Anthropologie. There aren’t many cases prettier than the gold iPhone itself, but these do the trick.
  • The killer Zoya nail polish promotion that ends tonight. You can get three bottles of polish for “free” ($12 shipping). I haven’t tried the brand before, but it seems like a good excuse to give it a whirl. I ordered Blu, Maya and Ibiza.
  • Our newly organized pantry. I know it’s such a mundane task, but organizing the shelves, tossing expired food, and discovering staples hidden in the back instantly made our kitchen feel organized. I’m loosely doing Apartment Therapy’s “January Cure” and it’s giving me a much-needed kick in the rear to get our place in order.
  • This pair of Tory Burch wedges. They’re unlike anything else I own and I’m crazy about them. They’ll definitely be my 2014 “Tax Return Splurge,” but not from the Tory Burch site where they’re listed at $325. Other retailers have them for $295. They also come in an all-black version at Bergdorf Goodman.

A small moment of peace from the past weekend. I A small moment of peace from the past weekend.

I feel like I’ve been doomscrolling since the news broke of SCOTUS’ decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. My emotions run the gamut from sadness to frustration to unadulterated rage. I’m deeply disgusted by conservatives and evangelicals, but especially by liberals who supported Bernie Sanders and refused to vote for Hillary Clinton at such a crucial moment in our history. Did you know that 12% of Sanders’ primary election supporters voted for Trump in the general election? In Wisconsin alone, 51,000 of them voted for Trump — a state Trump would win by just 22,000 votes.

Your vote matters. It matters in national elections, statewide elections, and local elections. It’s crucial that Democrats organize as strategically as conservatives did and restore reproductive rights.

In the meantime, donate your time, talent, or treasure to help those facing an unwanted pregnancy. @thecut has a great list on their site with organizations to support in states likely to prohibit abortion. I’ve donated to @plannedparenthoodwi.
Reveal day is finally here! It’s been a long pro Reveal day is finally here! It’s been a long process that started back in April 2020 with a kitchen ceiling leak that was attributed to water leaking from our tub faucet and working its way through the floor and into the kitchen. Our bathroom was never anything to look at (before photos on the feed), but the leak really accelerated our plans for a full bathroom renovation when timelines — and budgets — allowed. It feels a bit surreal to have it done and I don’t think I’ll ever stop admiring it whenever I walk past!

Head to the blog today to read about two headaches that came at the tail end of our main bathroom remodel.

I am just the happiest! I keep looking at this bat I am just the happiest! I keep looking at this bathroom and thinking how lucky we are that we were able to do this! It wasn’t always easy to navigate the stressful moments, but the end result is worth it. I feel like I’m at a luxury hotel every time I shower! (And it sure beats showering with the spiders in our [basically unfinished] basement bathroom. It was like camping in our own home for the past six weeks — and I very much hate camping!)

More photos to come!

The rest of the shower tile will be installed on Monday and then they’ll starting laying the floor tile. I can’t wait!
