Open Tabs: Travel, Home Finds, Odds & Ends

July 21, 2025 by jessica

TRAVEL

Our last trip to Brussels was back in December of 2019 — it was our last trip before the pandemic. 36 Hours in Belgium’s capital city is making me want to go back.

A guide to Parisian flea markets.

Visiting Norwegian islands that have 24 hours of daylight in summer.

I’m late to the game on this, but did you see that Paravel went out of business? I’ll need to finish up my collection with help from eBay.

HOME FINDS

There are more brands making chic cat furniture lately and Mau is the latest to catch my eye. How good is this Japanese-inspired scratcher and lounger?!

A set of well-designed, unbreakable wine glasses. (If you’re the type to shop for gifts throughout the year, this would be a great pick.)

Check out these charming cherry candles!

Schoolhouse just release two amazing pieces of furniture: a barrister-inspired cabinet and an end table. I’m saving up for the cabinet!

A great striped tablecloth that comes in three colors and is now on sale.

ODDS & ENDS

This is undoubtedly one of my favorite home renovations to date because of how many vintage-inspired details the owners kept. I love how they added molding to the soffit to make it seem like an architectural feature — a detail I’m now considering for our own kitchen renovation.

A sculptural statement ring.

I recently purchased this swimsuit from Lands’ End for our upcoming trip to the Côte d’Azur and it’s gorgeous! The cut is flattering, there’s ample rear coverage, and the fabric has a nice texture to it. Opt for your regular size.

Take this pop culture quiz to see if you could have landed a job at Vogue in the ’90s.

16 standout cookbooks this summer.

Snapshots from our recent mini getaway to Chicago.

Open Tabs: Recent Wardrobe Purchases, Home Inspiration, Odds & Ends

June 23, 2025 by jessica

This month is flying by already. I’ve had a few extremely busy weeks at work and our summer schedule is already filling up — leaving little time for much else! While I find myself feeling overwhelmed with all of the seasonal plans, I have to admit that it’s still my favorite time of year. I have a few things to share this week, along with a roundup of the most notable of recent purchases. Hope you have a great week!

RECENT WARDROBE PURCHASES
  • Lizzie Fortunato “Papaya” earrings – I bought these in another color last year and love them so much that I gifted these to myself for my birthday at the end of May.
  • Nike “Pacific” sneakers in three colors: tan, green, and pink – My sneaker collection was due for an overhaul at the same time I came across this vintage-inspired design. I couldn’t decide between green or pink, so natural bought both, and then added tan shortly after. They run a half size small.
  • Birkenstock “Madrid” sandals in black raffia – The raffia texture is so pretty, but they nearly sold out quickly. Bookmark the link for possible restocks.
  • Boden “Cynthia” tea dress – This dress is so beautiful! I bought it to wear to a semi-casual wedding later this summer and will pair it with this clutch and these flat sandals.
  • J.Crew ribbed funnel neck sweater – This sweater has a lovely drape and it’s lightweight for spring and summer.
  • Target crewel maxi dress – A $40 dress that looks much more expensive than it is.
  • H&M braided ballet flats – I don’t anticipate that shoes from H&M will last that long, but these woven Mary Janes were too cute to pass up and they’re surprisingly comfortable.
  • Boden “Liv” v-neck cardigan – This linen cardigan has the prettiest vintage print. It received a lot of compliments. I went up a size to ensure the buttons don’t gap and I can wear it without a cami underneath.
HOME INSPIRATION

I had the most amazing opportunity recently to collaborate with my absolute favorite brand: Schoolhouse. I used the opportunity to build on the items I already had for our guest room, adding in a bright blue throw pillow and a cute lamp that was already on my wish list. You can find images of the items in my post from last week.

Beautiful limewash paint colors.

Making the case for taking a slow approach to home design and renovation.

A 720-square-foot home full of design inspiration.

ODDS & ENDS

These hand towels — especially in yellow — are perfect for a powder room.

Top your steak sandwiches with a blueberry balsamic ginger spread.

I could not resist a set of these melamine plates. I bought six in each size.

East Fork added a new glaze to its core collection and it’s perfection.

We’re going to Philadelphia later this summer. During my trip research, I came across this cute post featuring local restaurant and bar matchbooks as birth months. (Really, the entire Insta account is great for others who like collecting matchbooks.)

I’m looking for more summer vegetable-forward dishes to add to our meal rotation and I’m intrigued by this buttermilk corn pasta that uses buttermilk powder.

Open Tabs: Fish Motifs, Rhubarb Pie, Fantastic Enamelware, and More!

May 26, 2025 by jessica

Spring is all about renewal and as I’m settling back in here on the blog, I figured the semi-regular roundup was in need of a refresh — starting with the name. This post has always been a recap of the interesting tidbits, design finds, recipes, and everything else I recently kept track of in an open tab, so let’s just call it that! And, let’s add a bit of order to the roundup as I find that themes emerge as the weeks go by. Here’s what’s in my open tabs this week:

FRENCH WANDERLUST

We’re going to France this August and one of the shops on my list is Officine Universelle Buly in Paris. It’s become more popular online recently thanks to these incredibly sweet monogrammed lip balm containers and I absolutely want one.

The best kebabs in Paris.

Pouring over the list of must-see locations in the Cote d’Azur. Antibes, Nice, Eze, and Menton are all on our list.

GONE FISHING – STYLISHLY

Fish are everywhere this season! Here are a few finds that may interest you:

  • The Farm Rio dress that’s gaining traction, which comes in red, blue, and green.
  • Sardines take center stage in this scarf’s nod to an Italian tablescape. The brand has other fun options here and here.
  • A fish-shaped clutch makes for a conversation piece.
  • Accessorize with fish by way of earrings, a bracelet, or a bag charm.
  • Not into wearing the trend? Try a set of cocktail napkins.
ODDS & ENDS

Gardening scissors that come in an array of cheerful hues.

A recent roundup of things to love is right here. Pair the woven clutch in that post with this marigold dress for an unexpected color combination.

How to prune a lilac shrub.

I don’t need East Fork enamelware, but I love it all the same. They nailed the color combinations.

Recently welcomed this cute lamp into our home for spring! (sponsored)

A sneak peek at how our guest room is coming along.

Crazy about this artist’s work and how she incorporates florals into her marbling technique.

This is such a good recipe for rhubarb pie.

I hope you have a wonderful week and please do share what’s in your own open tabs!

On the Right Foot: Paczki for Fat Tuesday, A Rattan Fruit Bowl, A Home Renovation With Preservation in Mind & More!

March 3, 2025 by jessica

Recent Snapshots: the best iced orange latte with oat milk from Ledger; brownies from the Dessert Person cookbook on one of my new East Fork pottery bowls in Big Sky; Lily keeping warm next to the air vent under the bathroom sink; date night at Lallande.

A poet’s guide to Venice in the winter.

The history of eating paczki on Fat Tuesday.

A renovation that preserved this home’s historic and relaxed charm.

Rounding up recent purchases here and here.

I forgot to add another recent item to the latest “Notable Purchases” post: this $25 solar lamp. Such a great midcentury-inspired design. I bought it in black because it hides the solar panel and charging port the best.

I finally watched Martha, the Netflix documentary about Martha Stewart. Perfection.

I’ll be snapping up this necklace the moment it’s available.

Recapping the 48 hours we spent in York, England last fall.

The most iconic chairs in design.

Meet the person who makes the red carpet.

A rattan fruit bowl to add texture to your table or a bookshelf.

Enjoy your week!

On the Right Foot: Japan on a Budget, $10 Chunky Hoop Earrings, Your Guide to the Lunar New Year & More!

January 27, 2025 by jessica

The last weekend of January went by entirely too fast. We went out for dinner on Friday to Umami for Restaurant Week. I typically avoid Madison Restaurant Week now as its no longer a deal, removing much of the incentive to join the crowds. However, Umami had a solid menu this year. On Saturday, we popped over to a friend’s house to celebrate her birthday and yesterday was spent doing chores, starting The Next Mrs. Parrish, throwing at the pottery studio, and making pasta e fagioli. (I mistakenly read the soup recipe, though, and used an entire box of pasta rather than just shy of two cups. It’s more pasta than soup now. Still excellent.)

How to plan a trip to Japan on a budget.

11 finds for a home decor refresh.

Meet Japan’s original decluttering guru, Hideko Yamashita.

Loving Sezane’s new cropped jacket.

Did you know there’s a secret game you can play at Dishoom in London?!

Bon Appetit’s stir fry recipes have typically been a hit for us. I’m eager to try this basil chicken version.

A guide to the Lunar New Year.

I just purchased these $10 earrings, which are a dupe for a Mejuri pair.

The biggest interior color trends of the year.

The crochet details on these sneakers are too good.

Enjoy your week!
