On the Right Foot: 33 Decluttering Techniques, Charming Villages in the South of France, a Beautiful Home Tour & More!

April 15, 2024 by jessica Leave a Comment

My warm-weather quilt (above) is now on sale! You can find the matching shams here.

West Elm now offers made-to-measure linen sheers. (I’m making this recommendation with a warning that, in my experience, laundering West Elm curtains will likely cause them to shrink — even if you adhere to the care tag’s recommendations.)

Sex and the City is coming to Netflix, along with a new round of criticism of Carrie — but does it matter if she’s the worst?

I just purchased the bag included in last week’s roundup. It’s the perfect size for weekend outings: generous enough for all of your essentials without being too large.

If you prefer woven totes, try this one.

Check out this beautiful home tour.

Now that spring is here, I’m sure you’re also thinking about decluttering your space. Here are 33 different techniques to try.

A selection of home finds in a wonderfully neutral color palette.

A cat residing at Foxglove Farm near the Appalachian Trail is gaining popularity for helping to guide hikers who stay at the Airbnb.

Five charming villages in the south of France.

Kitchen inspiration.

Loving the curved edges of this wood tray.

On the Right Foot: Eclipse Lore, a Smart Decluttering Tip, the Rise and Fall of the Trad Wife & More!

April 8, 2024 by jessica Leave a Comment

Above: Snapshots from Olbrich Botanical Gardens where signs of spring are starting to make an appearance.

Did you know that the word “eclipse” comes from the Greek word for “abandonment?” Read up on eclipse lore here.

This spring’s best cookbooks.

Florida’s best state parks.

I love J.Crew’s beach sweaters and the vibrant orange of this year’s version is perfection. It’ll be a fun pairing with the periwinkle-blue sunglasses I just ordered.

Tips for removing limescale from marble countertops.

The rise and fall of the trad wife.

Thirteen charming European cities worth a day trip.

What a beautiful little apartment. I especially love the simple bedroom design that still makes an impact.

A couple of inexpensive design finds: a softly sculptural wood bowl and an Art Deco-inspired salt and pepper shaker set.

If you’re starting to spring clean and declutter, try this tip of using a “last chance box” for items you’re unsure about.

Enjoy your week!

On the Right Foot: Moon Gardens, Four Days in Dublin, the Thrill of the [Vintage] Hunt & More!

April 1, 2024 by jessica Leave a Comment

I’m so happy that it’s finally April! This spring feels like a renewal more than ever — I’m sure that’s due in part to having a new job — but that “fresh start” feeling is creeping in. I’m looking forward to doing a deep spring clean, donating unused and unloved items, opening the windows, and swapping out our down comforter in favor of a lightweight quilt.

The thrill of hunting down a vintage must-have item.

Over the weekend, I planted peas and radishes in my garden. Here’s a list of other vegetables you can start early.

Can’t stop thinking about these candy-colored earrings.

If you love the look of caning, don’t sleep on this tote.

How to create a moon garden.

I needed to buy a cake carrier to bring dessert to our Easter gathering. After reading plenty of reviews, I selected this one. It feels sturdy and it’s large enough for a frosted layer cake.

A popover dress that’s both classic and playful. (I went up a size.)

Four days in Dublin.

The year’s top jewelry trends. (Silver is officially back. Try these.)

Life Lately & On the Right Foot

March 25, 2024 by jessica Leave a Comment

Left to right, top to bottom: started a new job at the UW; enjoying an unseasonably warm day downtown; loved the Federico Uribe exhibit at MMoCA; continuing to practice pottery; the lemon bundt cake in What’s for Dessert is perfection; the venue for my last event with my previous employer.

Hello! A lot has happened since I last checked in nearly two months ago. The biggest update is that I accepted an event management job at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. I had been with my former employer for nearly 18 years and built the events department from the ground up, so it had been a difficult decision to make. But it’s an exciting change and will allow me to expand my leadership skills within a much larger organization. That said, being a “newbie” again is challenging, but it’ll get easier with time!

The hydrangea-inspired frosting on these cupcakes is too cute.

I can’t get over how much I love the sage-like green of East Fork’s latest release, “Lamb’s Ear.”

If you have outdated tile in your bathroom, this is inspiration to work with it.

After my West Elm curtains shrunk significantly in the wash, I bought these linens drapes as a replacement. I love that they have back tabs instead of just the rod pocket for mounting, which isn’t very common for budget curtains.

Don’t sleep on this linen-blend button-down shirt from Old Navy. This French-terry pullover is also great (bought it in white).

I’ve been enjoying NYT’s latest game, Strands.

I need to start watching Palm Royale, if not just for the outfits.

A colorful and eclectic home tour.

The most charming small towns in each state.

Why limit yourself to just a pop of red? I recently bought this shirt to wear with these shorts. They’re so good together with flat sandals, a woven bag, and a pair of turquoise earrings.

On the Right Foot: Wedding Sheet Cakes, the Rise and Fall of Delia*s, Butter Molds & More!

January 29, 2024 by jessica Leave a Comment

We spent last weekend with Dave’s family on Florida’s Gulf Coast. The warm weather and sunshine was a welcome respite to the subzero temperatures and snow here in Wisconsin. You can see a few more snapshots here.

I absolutely love the trend of an extra-long sheet cake in lieu of a traditional tiered wedding cake.

A recent roundup of items I love.

For those wilth a modern aesthetic, this is a great way to update plain bifold doors.

If Claudia Schiffer can confidently bring her cat out on an adventure, what’s stopping me?

I bought so many blue-and-white pieces from H&M last year for my summer wardrobe. This new blouse would fit in nicely.

Butter molds are the hot new trend for dinner parties.

The rise and fall of the Delia*s catalog.

Loving the shape and the patent finish of this bag.

A wonderful interview with Alex Matisse, the founder of East Fork Pottery and great-grandson of artist Henri Matisse.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
