I don’t know about you, but I just can’t deal with the autumnal posts in the middle of summer. I understand the temptation with so many pretty fall items starting to infiltrate stores, but this summer-to-fall color palette is the best I can muster. One of my favorite late-summer pieces is this dress that I purchased on a whim from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I half expected it to go back, but I was sold once I tried it on. It runs true to size and looks adorable with bangle bracelets and nude sandals. I’ll feature it in an outfit post next week on the off chance that the pattern is restocked before the sale is over.

Even though I recently placed an order for another summer dress (this one in yellow), I’ve been more and more interested in planning my fall wardrobe. That’s not to say I’m going to prematurely feature wool knits and heavy coats here (I hate when bloggers do that), but fall and winter clothes are on the pricier side so it makes sense to take stock of the seasonal selections that will get the most mileage. These kitten heel pumps are topping my list. I just love the bow detail on the back and they’re low enough for all-day wear, which makes them a nice ladylike alternative to my wear-with-everything black flats (a splurge, but the cost per wear is down to pennies). If you’re a size 10 or 11, you can get them here for $230. Otherwise, you’ll need to pony up another $40 to snag them here.

The New Jewelry Brand You Need to Know

June 27, 2018 by jessica Leave a Comment

AUrate jewelry review

As I get older, my sartorial focus continues to shift toward building a wardrobe with versatile, quality items. I used to believe that a high price tag meant a high-quality piece. However, those don’t always go hand-in-hand, and that’s especially true for your jewelry thanks to a new-to-me brand called AUrate. AUrate seeks to create more transparency in the jewelry business by cutting out the middle man to bring direct-to-consumer fine jewelry at fair prices. AUrate is doing its part to give back, too. Each piece is created with ethical and sustainable business practices in mind, and every sale supports literacy efforts in the United States by giving a book to a child in need. (I’ve talked about the Madison Reading Project before, so you know that’s a cause I can get behind!)

The collection itself is gorgeous and offers understated, everyday jewelry along with sophisticated, statement-making options. I came across an interview with Sophie Kahn, one of the brand’s founders, and she summed it up best: “We’re not focused on one aesthetic. We understand a woman is multi-faceted, that she’s going through different moments, different times, and we’ve adapted our aesthetic to that.”

Perhaps not surprisingly, I gravitated toward the collection of gold earrings when AUrate reached out to see if I’d like to collaborate. I initially fell in love with these bar earrings, and I was sold when I realized it was an ear jacket. It’s such a beautiful way to put a modern spin on a classic piece of jewelry. (My earrings happen to be gold vermeil, but these and all AUrate pieces can be crafted in 14k or 18k yellow, rose, or white gold.) But what I was struck by most was the quality of the jewelry. They’re substantial without weighing my earlobe down and seem like they should cost a lot more than they do. I have no doubt that these will be a lifelong addition to my jewelry collection.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
