ASOS Double Layer Cold Shoulder Pleated Mini Dress :: Bedknobs & Baubles

I bought this dress back in January and have been itching to wear it ever since it arrived, so it’s probably not surprising that it was the very first thing I tucked inside my suitcase for our New Orleans trip. I know that interest in off-the-shoulder, cold-shoulder, and peek-a-boo shoulder silhouettes is starting to wane, but I’m still into it when it comes to flirty little numbers like this. The dress sort of reminds me of a Chloé number without the insane price tag. In fact, it’s now on sale for just $36.50! There’s also a green version that’s still full price. I’ll likely add it to my closet the moment it hits the sale section. I have a pair of palm-print flats (sort of like these) that would look darling with it!

This week, I’m smitten with:

  • A cheerful red dress that’s under $100! Not only do I adore the color, I love that there are stretchy insets at the sides to ensure a perfect fit and it’s bra-friendly. It also comes in black with striped sides. (I’m pretty excited that Madewell items are now more readily available at other retailers, especially when those retailers that have free shipping both ways.)
  • A raffia box adorned with a pineapple closure. It’s a chic way to hide any small trinkets on your coffee table. (Speaking of which, I really like pineapples and just started a Pinterest board of ’em.)
  • Bold color. Weathermen are forecasting a spring heatwave next week in the low 50s. Just knowing spring is on the horizon puts me in the mood for bright, saturated color. This blanket is pricey, but it’s a fun inspiration piece.
  • Elephants.
  • Lemons and limes on this maxi dress. What do you think? Ridiculous or a must-have for Florida? (Possibly both.)
  • The cutest chambray romper.
  • A red bucket bag. Nothing screams summer like the reemergence of nautical pieces. A patriotic bucket bag keeps it on-trend.
  • Not Pictured: I’m tempted to snag these pillows for our bed. The pattern reminds me of Tory Burch’s summer textiles.

This week, I’m smitten with:

  • A striped spring coat. There’s also this one for those looking for a dressier–and slightly cheaper–alternative. It’s very Kate Spade, no?
  • This is as close as I’ll get to wearing sneakers with casual clothes.
  • I know this clutch has already made the rounds, but it’s worth posting on the off chance you haven’t seen it. One side says “oui” and the other says “non.” Perfect for those indecisive days.
  • It’s time to take an extra 40-50% off sale items at J.Crew! I’m not much for heels, but I really like these. And they’re still available in a 7!
  • Has anyone come across a more affordable version of this swimsuit? Preferably a one-piece.
  • A welcome desk accessory upgrade. I’m still using a clear plastic card holder that was under $5 from Staples.
  • Can you believe this backpack is $40 from Target?! The design is perfection. I’m not normally one to encourage faux-leather, but something as trendy as this isn’t worth an investment.
  • Soon (I hope!) it’ll be time for shorts and breezy tops. The detail on this one keeps it from being just another basic tee.

Friday Find Under $50

ASOS swimsuit, $47.52

A figure-flattering swimsuit is an absolute necessity when the mecury rises. I’m fond of the waistline-whittling, color-block panels of this suit and the pure white inset that shows off a golden glow (faux, of course!).

Phone nooks don’t get the attention they deserve Phone nooks don’t get the attention they deserve. They’re practically begging to be used as built-in displays for ceramics!

(I removed the phone jack, pulled the wires back through the hole, and patched it up, so it’s no longer functional for a landline. I assume a future owner won’t miss it either!)

I can’t believe we’re celebrating our fourth C I can’t believe we’re celebrating our fourth Christmas in the house! I’ve taken a version of this photo each Christmas to serve as a timeline of the small changes over the years. One thing never changes, though: I think our Christmas tree is the prettiest. 😊 I hope you have a wonderful holiday in however you’re able to celebrate this year. 2020 has been difficult, but we’re in the home stretch now! Sending lots of love your way!

As my holiday gift to you, enjoy my favorite famil As my holiday gift to you, enjoy my favorite family cookie recipe now on the blog! (Find it via the link-in-profile or search for "sugar cookie.”) It never feels like Christmas until I’ve had my mom’s sugar cookies. In a typical year (or even an atypical one like 2020!), I’ll spend a couple of days working on these — baking them the first and decorating them the second — and it immediately puts me in the holiday spirit. Not only are these nostalgic for me as she’s been making them my entire life (there’s even a photo of me, no older than 2 years old, sitting at the kitchen table “helping” with them), they’re hands-down the best sugar cookies I have ever had. And plenty of people agree with not-so-subtle hints to make them each year.

It never really feels like the holiday season unti It never really feels like the holiday season until I’ve made sugar cookies with my mom’s decades old recipe — and until I’ve risked a food-borne illness by snacking on raw dough. I shirked the holiday tradition last year after having been too busy with holiday travel (ten days in Belgium and a long weekend in Chicago left me too busy with other holiday to-dos), but there’s zero excuse to put off baking this year. #AlwaysHome #QuarantineForever
Buffalo plaid packages tied up with string ... the Buffalo plaid packages tied up with string ... these are a few of my favorite things. 🎶 (I don't think Julie Andrews would mind tweaking the lyrics a little bit, right? 😉)

Pro tip: Instead of looking at the gift-wrap section for things to decorate your presents, hit up your local craft store. I bought a package of 75 jingle bells, a dozen mini bottlebrush trees, and twine in seasonal colors for just a couple of dollars each. (The wrapping paper is from Target.)
