Zara clutch, $35.90

Contrary to popular advice, I don’t mind investing in a trendy statement piece when it’s something so perfect for my closet that a cheaper alternative just won’t do. My standout was a YSL arty ring long before Yves was dropped from the name. $195 was a lot to pay for a metal and glass cocktail ring (now it’s $290), but it was “the one” and I still wear it regularly. A metallic clutch (or a lucite one, for that matter) is not that type of purchase for me. I’d rather experiment with this budget-friendly Zara version.

Reminder! Win a pair of bangle bracelets from Sequin!

Splurge or Save?

Would you splurge or save on an orange Lucite clutch? While I appreciate the clear border on the CC Skye version, the Zara clutch is my pick for this trendy accessory.

Giveaway: Stella Valle

Military training isn’t the most conventional route to a career in fashion, but it works flawlessly for the sisters behind Stella Valle: Ashley Jung and Paige Dellavalle. Their surprising background inspires the designers to incorporate masculine elements in their work, but it’s always juxtaposed expertly by feminine refinement.

The standout pieces are from the “Nonnina” line. As the ladies mention on their blog, the Italian term of endearment for a grandmother inspired the Art Deco creations - and became a tribute to the strong women of our grandmothers’ era. Below, you’ll have the chance to win the beautiful Lillian necklace!

Discount! After entering the giveaway, mix an elderflower cocktail (this one, perhaps?) and shop Stella Valle’s collection. To sweeten the deal, they’re generously giving you a $25 discount through February 14, 2013. It’s the perfect excuse to treat yourself to a new bauble just in time for Valentine’s Day. Spring 2013 Jewelry Trends

I’m not ready to pack away candy-colored rhinestones just yet, but spring’s jewelry trends certainly are persuasive. Here are three trends to keep an eye on in the coming months:

Color Crush: Oxblood

This color has gotten a bad rap for unappealing names like burgundy and (shudder) maroon. But it’s time to shake the stigma and embrace oxblood, a richly saturated hue that’s flattering on most complexions. If the color feels too serious for you, pair it with an unexpected jolt of hot pink.

Top 10: Animal Sweaters

The key to making autumn’s herd of animal sweaters from looking too cutesy lies in sophisticated separates. Wear these sweaters with a refined pencil skirt or this gorgeous faux leather skirt from Target. If you’re tempted to wear it with jeans, cuff the hem and don a pair of stellar heels.

Shop It: (first row) Pheasant Sweater; Owl Sweater; Fox Sweater // (second row) Dalmatian Sweater; Fox Sweater; Leopard Sweater // (third row) Sheep Sweater; Deer Sweater; Hen Sweater; Horse Sweater

And the winner is… Jenny of Spry on The Wall! Congratulations on winning the $100 Shopbop gift card! Thank you to everyone for entering!

Wear It: Mint

Mint becomes sophisticated enough for fall in heavy fabrics and structured shapes. Pair it with neutrals (and something sparkly) for maximum impact.

Trend Spotting: Fox Motifs

Fox motifs have slyly worked into autumn’s wardrobe. Wear these friendly faces in unexpected ways to avoid a full-on “woodland chic” aesthetic. How about that sweater with a refined pencil skirt? Or fox baubles with a cocktail dress? The key to pulling this off is keeping it playful.
