Perfect Present: Kate Spade Bottle Stopper

November 26, 2014 by jessica 1 Comment

PerfectPresent1

[dropcap custom_class=”normal”]I[/dropcap]’ve been coming across great gift ideas that I’m afraid will sell out by the time I put them in a gift guide, so I thought I’d start sporadic “Perfect Present” posts to keep you in the loop on these finds. Kate Spade’s Surprise Sale started today. I’ve got my eye on this bottle stopper for holiday gifting. At just $17 (plus $5 shipping), it’s the perfect hostess gift for those on a budget. Just add a bottle of booze if you’re feeling extra festive!

Windy City

[dropcap custom_class=”normal”]I[/dropcap]’m officially in the holiday spirit after spending a weekend in Chicago with Dave. I spent too much money on ornaments at the Christkindlmarket (apparently that gluhwein went to my head and my pocketbook), gawked at the city’s holiday decorations, and found this gorgeous shirt to wear throughout the season. Not a bad way to kick off the holidays, even if the weather was frustrating to pack for. I needed my winter coat for the freezing temperatures on Friday and, by the time Sunday rolled around, I barely needed a jacket to keep warm. I stuck with a suitcase full of black and grey, punctuated by these beautiful pieces from Gerard  Yosca’s latest collections. The smaller scale makes them ultra wearable (the earrings are even light enough to don all day) and I suspect they’ll transition nicely to Christmas cocktail attire.

Bauble of the Week

Julie Vos’ earrings make for the perfect gift this season. I’m particularly fond of the pearl and gemstone drop earrings. Each are topped with a gold beaded dome that adds an extra dose of holiday glam. You can also take 20% off these earrings (and everything else on the site, excluding sale merchandise) with code “bedknobsandbaubles.” The discount brings the pearl earrings down to just $76 and the gemstone pair to $124.

Weekend Guide

WeekendGuide112214

[dropcap custom_class=”normal”]I[/dropcap] come across so many noteworthy things throughout the week that don’t really fit in with my regular content. Instead of letting those links go to waste, I thought I’d share them with you in a weekend roundup of things to read, see, and do. I hope you’ll also join in and share your must-sees in the comment section!

REMINISCE
I love how this couple transformed an old R.V. into a cozy vintage escape.

[spacer]

BAKE
The holiday season is in full swing and afternoons spent baking are on the horizon. I’m planning to try these peppermint crinkle cookies this year.

[spacer]

PLAY
Sign up for ten days of holiday gifts from the creators of America’s favorite party game for horrible people.

WEAR
It’s finally time to break out the cozy woolens. I’m fond of this cashmere hat with an oversize fur pompom.

[spacer]

VISIT
I let the holidays fly by last year without a trip down to Chicago for the annual Christkindlmarket. I’m not making that same mistake this year.

[spacer]

SIP
I picked up a crate of Mandarin oranges the other day and I don’t think I’ll be able to get through all of them before they spoil. I’ll be juicing some of the leftovers to make this vodka spritzer.

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
