Top 5 Silver Shoes

I was skeptical of silver shoes at first. As someone who went to high school in the ’90s, strappy silver sandals were the thing to wear to formal dances and I certainly didn’t want to relive those memories. However, I still purchased a pair of silver flats from Banana Republic on a whim. I never would have guessed they would become my most-loved pair of shoes this summer. Lately, I’m Loving…

…a huge belated birthday splurge.

After four years of pining for an Hermes clic-clac bracelet, I decided that my golden birthday this year (30 on May 30) was a milestone worthy of such an indulgent purchase.

However, this wasn’t a purchase I could make spontaneously. It’s a lot of money to spend on an enamel bracelet no matter how long I’ve coveted one. In January, I started saving any blog income (ahem, affiliate money on my own purchases), eBay earnings and a little bit per paycheck in a Capital One 360 account.

Do any of you use Capital One 360? It’s pretty amazing. Dave introduced me to it when I started saving for this bracelet. You can setup a general savings account or create accounts with savings goals assigned to them (mine are designated for fashion splurges and travel). If you wanted to give it a whirl, you can earn a bonus of $25 if you sign up with my referral link and make an initial deposit of $250. (You don’t need to make minimum deposits moving forward and you don’t need to maintain a minimum balance.) Wanderlust: The Upper Peninsula

We’ve been meaning to go up to my parents’ house all summer and finally made the trek to Northern Wisconsin last weekend. It was the perfect excuse to continue north to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula on Saturday. (We were just a hop, skip and a jump away, after all.) We spent the day exploring Houghton, stopping at a couple of breweries and taking a walk along Agate Beach on Lake Superior.

I’m obsessed with these new earrings, especially in green and black onyx (a favorite color combination of mine).

I couldn’t resist a generous offer from Hotel Lincoln to spend a couple of nights in The Windy City next weekend. We’re planning to snap touristy photos at The Bean, go on the Ferris wheel, dine at The J. Parker, take an architecture boat tour and try a few new-to-me beers at The Bad Apple. What else should we add to our must-do list?
