Baubles on a Budget: Under $75

Happy Monday! If you’re dragging this morning, there are two things that are guaranteed to perk up the start of the week: a Venti coffee (of course) and a new piece of jewelry at a wallet-friendly price point. I’m into bold conversation-starting pieces lately. (How amazing is that pin?! It looks even better when paired with this pout.) Here are nine of my favorite gems that all come in at under $75.

Top Row

Middle Row
Jenny Bird pin | Sibilia earrings | Anthropologie necklace

Bauble Bar Criselda Ball Drop Earrings

Who would have thought that Rebecca Ravenel’s oversize bauble earrings would cause such a stir among the fashion crowd with affordable lookalikes popping up everywhere? It probably shouldn’t have come as a surprise, of course, knowing that statement earrings are topping everyone’s must-have jewelry list and lightweight designs are a godsend for keeping our earlobes from drooping in old age! I’ve recently become obsessed with these Bauble Bar beauties — so much so that I keep looking for additional earrings with thread-wrapped baubles for my collection! Below are some of my favorites. (And if you’re already tired of these, it looks like Rebecca Ravenel might just spark a new trend. Look at how gorgeous these wooden earrings are!)

Row 2 – Humble Chic, $34 | Lizzie Fortunato, $230 | Bauble Bar, $48

Behind the Baubles: Anna Davern

Behind the Baubles interview with designer Anna Davern

Maybe it’s just me, but every now and then I daydream about being bedecked in gemstones the size of my palm. This fantasy usually crops up when we’re traveling and admiring the royal jewels of a country, but now it’s becoming closer to reality with Anna Davern’s jewelry. Sort of.

Australia-based Anna Davern is one of the most innovative jewelry designers I’ve come across recently. She creates trompe l’oeil earrings that resemble staggeringly expensive, oversize precious gemstones by using a sublimation printing technique on old biscuit tins and tin trays. The end results are unexpectedly gorgeous statement earrings that don’t need to be reserved for special occasions – or protected by armed guards!

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
