The Weekend Guide 02.26.16

TOSS
If you’ve been hoarding back issues of magazines, it’s time to let them go. Meg took the decluttering plunge earlier this week and lived to write about it!

LEARN
Italian designer Brunello Cucinelli has taken a long-term, ethical view to building his cashmere brand.

KNOW
Unhitched women are are the forefront of America’s culture change.

REFRESH
Spring cleaning inevitable leads to a desire to revamp your home decor. Here are eight ways to freshen up for spring.

ANTICIPATE
Lands’ End has partnered with fashion industry talent to launch a new designer collection. I have no idea how much any of it will cost, but that coat pictured above will be mine.

WEAR
I’ve partnered with eBay to create a series of shopping and lifestyle guides. I’ve put together a list of spring’s top five jewelry trends to try in 2016.

EARLIER THIS WEEK
Wore a bright red dress, which is my favorite thing in my closet right now.
Featured it the next day with the week’s most coveted.
Found a fantastic M2Malletier dupe.
Admitted to my shopping conquests.
Made mini cherry pies in the shape of hearts. (Let me know if you’d like me to post a tutorial!)
Picked up this cute pajama set from Old Navy. (I love this gingham set, too!)

Mini Moments: January 2016

Mini Moments January 2016

I can’t believe we’re already through the first month of 2016! I don’t really get out much in the middle of winter, but there are a few mini moments worth reminiscing about:

  • Playful stripes kept a monochromatic look from being too boring. (The cape is still available in medium/large and it’s on sale.)
  • Grocery store blooms are one of my favorite indulgences. Bouquets of tulips (my favorite flower) must mean that spring is on its way!
  • I managed to stay on budget with the first shopping recap of the new year. A $200 Visa gift card from work allowed me to take home that Tory Burch beauty for virtually nothing. It’s been popping back on the Tory Burch site in various colors. Keep an eye on it here.
  • I go through my jewelry collection each spring to reorganize messy piles and rediscover old favorites. I’ll do a post on my organization technique soon, but I will say that stackable clear plastic trays (sort of like this) are lifesavers.
  • One of my coworkers brought back chocolates from a recent jaunt to Italy.
  • We booked a trip to Denmark and Belgium! While we visited Belgium in 2014, we’re beyond excited to go back to Brussels to restock our beer supply and head out on day trips to cities we didn’t visit the first time around. However, we’re definitely going back to Bruges for a day. The city looks like it’s straight from a fairy tale.
  • I was given the opportunity to try out some products from The Laundress. I’m going to do a full review in a couple of days, but let me tell you that their Signature Detergent is a total game changer. I always buy white sheets, but didn’t realize that they weren’t living up to their full potential with Tide until I used The Laundress product. The sheets have never been this bright since I purchased them. You can try their products out with a FREE $25 voucher. All you need to do is post a laundry day Instagram with #IamTheLaundress and then fill out this form.
  • My beloved faux fur coat is available for an even deeper discount! It runs true to size.
  • Kate Spade’s latest book is all kinds of adorable.

Let’s be friends on Instagram @bedknobsandbaubles!

Unconventional Necklace Storage

NecklaceStorage

For awhile now, I’ve considered going through my apartment and taking Coveteur-style photos of my belongings. While those items would be meticulously arranged just for a photo, this little corner of the dresser is a glimpse into how I actually deal with the statement necklaces I’m too lazy to put away. I had this Harry Allen piggy bank on my wish list for five years before finally purchasing it in 2015. Of course, it’s an essential place to store wayward coins, but I love its sartorial use even more.

Save 70% at Gorjana

Sale-Alert-Gorjana-2

Gorjana, your go-to destination for the perfect layer pieces, is offering 70% off a huge selection of gorgeous gems. Use code HANGOVER70 to save on the selection featured here. I’ve had my eye on this lariat necklace for awhile now, but never took the full-price plunge. ($75 always seemed too excessive for what it was.) For $22.50, though, I was sold.

The sale ends Jan. 10.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
