ASOS Broderie Sundress with Strappy Back

Memorial Day (and, ahem, my birthday weekend) marks the unofficial start of summer. It often feels as if I’m constantly counting down to my favorite season so that I can break out my arsenal of summer dresses. But can you really fault me for that? Lightweight dresses are the perfect canvas for layering jewelry like these rings from www.MoonstoneShop.com. I’ve been a fan of moonstone for as long as I can remember, but it was solidified when I visited Moonstone Beach in California years ago and spent well over an hour sifting through stones on the beach to find the iridescent beauties. I had intended to have the stones I found polished and set in a ring, but let’s be honest, going straight to the source for genuine moonstone jewelry is so much easier! The shop carries an array of petite rings that are perfect for layering a few statement-making pieces to sprinkle into your collection. You can also find moonstone earrings, pendants, and bracelets.

Pearls & Polka Dots

May 22, 2017 by jessica 6 Comments

ASOS polka dot dress & Zara pearl sandals

When I bought these sandals in March, I knew I wanted to wear them with a polka dot dress from ASOS that I received from a collaboration with the company a couple of years ago. I hadn’t worn the dress in awhile and had almost considered donating it since it didn’t meet the “wear at least once a year” rule. I’m glad I kept it. The sandals have given me a renewed interest in the frock and reminded me of just how fun it is to wear it. Situations like these are exactly why it’s so difficult for me to get rid of items in my closet. I never know when I’ll want to reach for an item again. So, instead of abiding by the “one in, one out” rule or the advice to keep only pieces worn within the last 12 months, I keep any piece that feels special. If my heart can’t bear the thought of losing it, then I know it’s a keeper and that I’ll eventually make my way back to it. I know there’s a lot of pressure with blogging to only keep the newest items that have current affiliate links, but it’s so much more satisfying to revive an old piece with a new accessory.

Lovely Linen

Garnet Hill Essential Linen Shirt

It’s no surprise that summer is my favorite season, and every spring day that has even a hint of something warmer in the forecast has me reaching for summer staples to debut, like this breezy linen tunic from Garnet Hill. I’ve had the opportunity to work with Garnet Hill on a couple of posts over the past few months (here and here) and I’m always delighted with the brand’s classic cuts and high quality pieces. This particular piece is crafted from flax grown and handpicked in France, and promises to get softer with every wash. It’s such a classic piece that pairs well with other closet mainstays, like denim shorts, but will look just as chic over a swimsuit when the weather really heats up!

Also, can we take a moment to admire just how fantastic and on-trend this little bag is?! I picked it up at Target after seeing it on Cathy’s Instagram Story. It’s really soft for being faux leather, and I can’t get enough of the oversize ring handle. (The cross-body strap is removable.)

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
