Pretty, Useful Things: Stylish Soap Dispensers

March 25, 2022 by jessica 0 Comments

12 Stylish Soap Dispensers

ONE | TWO | THREE | FOUR | FIVE | SIX | SEVEN | EIGHT | NINE | TEN | ELEVEN | TWELVE

Fortunately I don’t suffer from decision paralysis because this renovation is one decision after another, and it’s everything from location of light switches and outlets to the size of the shower nook to the color of grout — and even to the accessories like soap dispensers. The soap dispensers I’ve had from Target haven’t really held up over the years, with exception of No. 6 above which is in our kitchen, so I’m on the hunt for new ones to outfit both bathrooms. Since I already have dozens of tabs open, I thought I’d share some of my favorites. Right now, I’m leaning toward No. 2 or No. 10 for our powder room. For the main bathroom, a glass version like No. 9 looks like it might be the perfect vintage-inspired choice.

The Best Faux Houseplants for Spring 2022

January 28, 2022 by jessica 0 Comments

ONE | TWO | THREE | FOUR | FIVE | SIX | SEVEN | EIGHT | NINE | TEN | ELEVEN | TWELVE

I wouldn’t say I have a green thumb, but I am capable of keeping most houseplants alive. However, I appreciate the ease of a faux plant when it adds a much-needed dose of greenery to a dim corner of a house or when it takes the place of an otherwise finicky variety. Plus, going faux means you can display these anywhere in your home without worrying about accidentally pet poisonings. (We have to keep our ZZ and snake plants out of Oliver’s reach.) There are a lot of beautiful faux options available this year and you’ll find some of my favorites above!

I wasn’t going to shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, but…

July 13, 2021 by jessica 1 Comment

The novelty of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale has worn off. I was planning to sit this one out entirely, but curiosity got the better of me when I decided to check out the home section … which then turned into browsing every single page of the sale. And I’ll be frank, there’s not much worth buying, especially those Barefoot Dreams cardigans and throws. You’ve spent an entire year in quarantine wearing loungewear. It’s time to stop doing that to yourself.

The sale opens to the public on July 28 and there’s a decent chance my favorites will sell out by then. Which is completely fine, since I don’t actually need any of these things, but it’s still fun to window shop. Here’s what I have my eye on:

  1. My favorite face lotion. It’s a good time to buy any of your skincare or makeup staples since you know you’ll use it anyway.
  2. A set of silicone utensils.
  3. Statement earrings. The black pair is the best.
  4. A bathmat that comes in three colors. (The grey one would work best with our upcoming bathroom remodel.)
  5. Reusable storage bags.
  6. This cult-favorite bra in charcoal.
  7. A striped Turkish towel.
  8. A black dress with a flattering, classic shape.

Shopping Guide: Spring Vases

February 23, 2021 by jessica 0 Comments

Each year when we’re straddling the line between winter and spring, I go overboard filling our home with grocery store flowers (a $7 bouquet is hard to beat!) in an attempt to make the inside of our house much more cheerful than the grey days outdoors. It’s also an excellent excuse to treat oneself to a new vase. Here are 12 of my favorites for spring:

  1. Spongeware Pitcher, $98
  2. Colour Vase, $30
  3. Gray Glass Vase, $25
  4. Cecillia Pink Glass Vases, $16.95 – $19.95
  5. Berlin Column Vase, $200
  6. Wooden Vase, $90
  7. Minetta Marbled Vases, $28 – $58
  8. Ruff White Vase, $59.95
  9. Bottoms Up Vase, $58
  10. Hardwood Bud Vase, $60
  11. Modular Blue Glass Vase/Hurricane, $49.95
  12. Whitney Gourd Vase, $29

Trending: Circle Woven Bags Under $150

June 18, 2018 by jessica 3 Comments

Circle Woven and Wicker Bags Under $150

ONE | TWO | THREE | FOUR | FIVE | SIX | SEVEN | EIGHT | NINE

Woven and wicker bags began gaining popularity last summer, and the ’70s-inspired trend isn’t going anywhere any time soon. Whether you decide to go vintage (this one is gorgeous!) or new, there’s a woven bag to suit every style and every budget. One of my favorite shapes of the season is the circle bag. I actually don’t own one yet, and if you’re in the same boat, I rounded up nine of my favorites that come in under $150. This one (not featured above) is a steal, but I’m really drawn to this woven bag. It takes a departure from the other bags of the season by being crafted out of leather, which actually makes it the perfect summer-to-fall transitional bag later this year.

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
