The Edit: Ball Drop Earrings

Bauble Bar Criselda Ball Drop Earrings

Who would have thought that Rebecca Ravenel’s oversize bauble earrings would cause such a stir among the fashion crowd with affordable lookalikes popping up everywhere? It probably shouldn’t have come as a surprise, of course, knowing that statement earrings are topping everyone’s must-have jewelry list and lightweight designs are a godsend for keeping our earlobes from drooping in old age! I’ve recently become obsessed with these Bauble Bar beauties — so much so that I keep looking for additional earrings with thread-wrapped baubles for my collection! Below are some of my favorites. (And if you’re already tired of these, it looks like Rebecca Ravenel might just spark a new trend. Look at how gorgeous these wooden earrings are!)

The Edit: Thread-Wrapped Ball Drop Earrings

Row 1 – Bauble Bar, $48 | Shashi, $35 | Shashi, $55

Row 2 – Humble Chic, $34 | Lizzie Fortunato, $230 | Bauble Bar, $48

Row 3 – Bauble Bar, $38 | INC International Concepts, $22 | CARA, $13

Housewarming Gifts with UncommonGoods

UncommonGoods Housewarming Gifts

I know you’re going to hate me after this comment: I’m looking forward to the holidays.

I know, right?! I kind of hate myself for that, too. There are still hot late-summer days to bask in and crisp fall days to enjoy, plus no one is actually looking forward to winter and snow. But I can’t help it. Now that we’re in our first house, I find myself eager for the holiday season to start so we can celebrate our first Halloween, our first Thanksgiving, and our first Christmas in our home! Since I can’t actually bring myself to shop for holiday decor and gifts just yet, I’m doing the next best thing: shopping for belated housewarming gifts for ourselves! Holiday gifts and housewarming gifts are basically the same thing when you’re shopping for yourself, right?

When UncommonGoods reached out to me earlier this month regarding their gift collections, I went down an entertaining rabbit hole of, well, uncommon gift ideas ranging from personalized presents to thoughtful anniversary ideas. But it wasn’t my first introduction to this unique Brooklyn-based retailer. My adoration of UncommonGoods actually goes back to my teenage years when we received the brand’s catalog in the mail and I spent entirely too long pouring over the interesting gifts and gadgets inside! I’ve always loved that half of what UncommonGoods carries is made my hand, and a majority of the jewelry, home decor, and table-top items are created in the United States. Beyond that, a third of the collection incorporates recycled or upcycled materials, so not only can you find an uncommon gift, you can find one that does an uncommonly impressive amount of good to the environment!

Alright, let’s get back to the goods! I’ve put together a roundup of a few items we would have loved to receive as housewarming gifts when we moved in — and would be more than happy to receive for the holidays this year to make our new home extra cozy!

1. London Poster | 2. Handmade Soap Set | 3. Planters | 4. Pineapple Tumbler | 5. Salt and Pepper Shakers | 6. Bowls | 7. Doormat | 8. Cheese Slicer | 9. Simple Syrup Set | 10. Herb Kit

How to Shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Early Without a Brand Credit Card

How to Shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Early Without a Brand Credit Card

With the onslaught of Nordstrom Anniversary Sale posts going up, I’m not going to add to the clutter with another roundup of “must-have” items. (Personally, I’m already tired of seeing the same 25 items gracing everyone’s wish lists.) However, I am going to share how you can shop the early-access sale without being a credit card or debit card holder with the brand.

After logging into your Nordstrom account, head to an item you’d like to purchase and click “Confirm Your Card & Add to Bag.” See below.

How to Shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Early Without a Brand Credit Card

You will then be prompted to enter the last four digits of your card number, your last name, and your billing ZIP code. Use the following information in these fields:

  • Last Four Digits: 3012
  • Last Name: NORDPRD
  • Billing ZIP Code: 80111

This should allow you to add the item to your bag and continue the check-out process with whatever method of payment you’d prefer. While I can’t promise this will work for everyone, I was able to complete my transaction for this darling dress (it’s so “me,” isn’t it?) and some Smartwool loafer socks (exciting, I know).

15 Must-Have Spring Bags Under $150

March 8, 2017 by jessica 2 Comments

Cult Gaia Ark Bag

I know I keep saying it, but I just can’t believe that spring is right around the corner! I’m thrilled to pack away the heavy winter clothing and accessories, and start fresh with breezy dresses and playful purses. I’ve been scouting out budget-friendly bags this week. Here are 15 of my favorites that all come in under $150.

  1. The Cult Gaia bag above has reached, well, cult status. I was lucky enough to buy mine before it gained popularity (and a couple of price hikes to go along with its newfound fame). At the time, I was hesitant to recommend it at its current price, but I’ve changed my tune after reaching for it more often than I thought I would. It’s just so darn fun to use! I either throw in a cosmetic case (as seen above) to wrangle items or tie a silk scarf around smaller items to keep them from slipping through the cracks.
  2. I mentioned the woven totes from this Etsy shop in Saturday’s post. I ordered the market tote, but I’m also crazy about this mini bag at $55.
  3. A leather half-moon clutch with scallop-trim detail that comes in white and blush for just $95.
  4. A cheerful striped clutch. I prefer it in yellow, but it’s also available in blue and red.
  5. You’ll bring a Mar Y Sol tote everywhere this summer.
  6. A beaded pineapple bucket bag?! Yes, please!
  7. This flat clutch has the feel of a Clare V. piece, but comes in at just $25.
  8. With layers of seagrass, this clutch feels like the handheld version of a grass skirt.
  9. It may be small in size, but this pouch packs a big punch with perforated leather and pom poms.
  10. A ladylike mini satchel that comes in pastel pink and cobalt blue for $50. I actually have this one on my wish list. The sleek shape looks more expensive than it actually is.
  11. The most unique leather woven tote I’ve come across yet. I love the pretty turquoise color.
  12. A mini basket with bright tassel details.
  13. I can’t believe this straw bucket bag is only $30. It has the cutest pink pom poms!
  14. This beaded turquoise clutch is a steal at $78.
  15. Even if you don’t have a tropical vacation on the books, this $38 clutch will make you feel like you’ve escaped the cold with a rainbow of pom poms across the flap.

It’s also worth doing an eBay search for vintage straw clutches for unique spring bags. Plus, you get to smugly tell everyone it’s vintage when they ask where to snag one of their own. 😉

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
