Love Delicate Layered Jewelry? Here’s the Brand You Need to Know! (Plus, a Discount Code!)

April 23, 2021 by jessica Leave a Comment

If you’re a longtime reader, you know that I my love of jewelry runs deep. I am a self-proclaimed magpie and I can’t resist adding new pieces to my collection regularly. Lately I’ve been drawn to classic, elegant pieces that are subtle and sophisticated on their own, but can be layered with statement-making gems.

I was recently introduced to a brand called Aurelie GI that specializes in those wear-with-everything pieces. It’s a U.S.-based jeweler that offers 14K gold pieces handcrafted with recycled precious metals. (Whenever we can marry style with sustainability, I’m on board!) The collection includes rings, earrings (both pairs and singles), bracelets, necklaces, and pendants (like this sweet “Mama” pendant just in time for Mother’s Day); and there are items studded with diamonds and semiprecious stones.

I chose the Effie oval band for its unique organic design and the textured Regalia band. As you’ll see below, they’re perfect for layering with one another or wearing on different fingers while mixing and matching with other jewelry items in your collection. If color is more your speed, the brand also has beautiful turquoise items like this stacking ring.

I’ve been wearing these rings nearly each day since they arrived three weeks ago and I’m impressed with the quality. I had a thin gold band years ago and it didn’t take much to bend it out of shape. These, however, are solid and the quality does support the price point.

And, while we’re on the topic of price, you can save 20% with code Jessica20 through the end of 2021!

Dress: Anthropologie (true to size; I’m wearing a medium)
Bag: Gucci (see what fits inside here)
Sneakers: Nike (also available here)
Rings: c/o Aurelie Gi (this one and this one) – Plus, save 20% with code Jessica20 through Dec. 31, 2021!
Bracelet: vintage (I adore this bracelet, though!)

The Danish-Designed Timepiece You Need to Know

February 19, 2021 by jessica Leave a Comment

In collaboration with Nordgreen.

It’s no secret that I’m a sucker for Danish design and the latest Copenhagen-based brand to catch my eye is Nordgreen. The Scandinavian watch company began in 2017 with partners Pascar Sivam and Vasilij Brandt who sought to create a timepiece collection that was both beautiful and environmentally responsible. Enlisting the partnership of award-winning designer Jakob Wagner, whose resume includes Hay, B&B Italia, and others, Nordgreen was born.

The name marries those two foundations of the brand: “Nord,” a reflection of its Nordic identity, and “Green,” to reflect its sustainable practices. In addition to partnering with NGOs to support urgent global causes through quarterly corporate social responsibility campaigns, Nordgreen allows the customer the opportunity to give back. Each watch purchased, allows the customer to select a cause you to support: Water for Good, Pratham UK, or Cool Earth.

We believe the right to good health, a clean environment, and a full education are rights for all. The harsh reality, however, is that much of the world does not experience them. Motivated by our Danish values, when we founded Nordgreen, we knew we had to do our part to help to change this in whatever way we could. There was no excuse not to give back.

—  Pas & Vas, Nordgreen’s founders

Nordgreen offers two styles for women (the Infinity and the Unika), two unisex designs (the Philosopher and the Native), and a men’s version (the Pioneer). For many of the watches, you can select your metal color (silver, gold, gunmetal, or rose gold), the face color (black, navy, or white), the face size (32mm, 36mm, or 40mm), and the band type. I opted for the Native because of its elegant, minimalist approach — a hallmark of Danish design — with the slightly larger 36mm face for a borrowed-from-the-boys look, and as you’ll see in the image below, the watch still has a slim profile making it comfortable for everyday wear. And, thanks to its timeless design, it’ll be part of my wardrobe for years to come — buying fewer, better things that’ll stand the test of time is one of the most sustainable things we can do for our wardrobes, which really speaks to the heart of the Nordgreen brand.

“I don’t think so much about the product; I think about the person using it, the context. We all have relationships with our products. I see myself as the one that makes sure that relationship is a good one.”

—  Jakob Wagner

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
