The Coveted

Over the last few weeks, I’ve found myself bookmarking more bright, whimsical items to (hopefully) incorporate into my wardrobe once “No Shop November” comes to a close. Although, there’s a good chance I’ll lose my resolve once Black Friday rolls around. (Last year, I couldn’t resist a beautiful Monica Vinader Baja bracelet in sterling silver and green onyx for half price.) Until then, here are some of the items catching my eye this week:

  • A bright pink coat. I wanted a pink winter coat last year, but couldn’t find the right one. It seems like such a wonderful dose of much-needed color in the dead of winter.
  • A monkey bag charm. It’s an irresistibly cute way to stow coins and other small essentials.
  • This plaid dress from Banana Republic, which I might break my shopping ban to try this month. The direction of the plaid pattern and cut of the wedding dress look flattering. I think the fringe hem looks sloppy on a tailored piece like this and I’d have it hemmed to hide it.
  • Stripes and scallops! Does it get any better than this darling swimsuit?
  • Celebratory shot glasses to take the edge off the holiday stress.
  • Lulu Frost’s oversized initial pendants.
  • A pair of hot pink pumps that would make Barbie proud. I also love these muted pink pumps.

Not pictured:

  • I’m tempted to snag this Joyeux Noel striped t-shirt for lazy days at home.
  • I came across this dark floral blouse this morning. Not only is it beautiful, it’s wallet-friendly!
  • How amazing is this accent table? The top is solid marble and it comes to just $76.50 after the extra 15% off. Need.

This week, I’m coveting:

  • The beautiful splash of sequins on this new arrival from Tory Burch. The assortment of colors mix and match with your holiday favorites, but I imagine it would also look pretty with spring pastels.
  • The lace detail on this $30 blouse.
  • A cozy cable-knit sweater in olive green. Wear it with a light pink skirt for an unexpected color combo.
  • A sensible camel skirt in an unexpected material. Neoprene breathes life into an office staple.
  • Slingback feline flats. My obsession with Charlotte Olympia’s iconic kitty hasn’t died down. I’m crazy about this feminine option for spring.
  • Rainbow crystal chandelier earrings. The holidays are way more fun with a garish amount of color.

Between the nail polish I’ve been wearing nonstop, my faux-Chloe bag, and the cape I just purchased, I can’t get enough of grey this season. Here’s what else caught my eye:

  • The incredible woven textile on this coat.
  • A textured mini bag that’s sleek enough to wear with everything this fall and winter.
  • These dainty mother of pearl blossom earrings from one of my favorite jewelry designers.
  • This stunning — and expensive — Guerlain compact, even though I’m sure this illuminating powder would do the trick.
  • A cozy cashmere sweater. (I have it in camel and it’s one of my favorites.)
  • Glossy ankle boots. They’re the perfect finishing touch to your ’60s-inspired ensembles.
  • A watch you’ll have forever. Add it to your holiday wish list now.

This look is definitely more Alice in Wonderland than I prefer, but I had to put together this week’s “The Coveted” with that whimsical clutch in mind! Here’s what caught my eye this week:

  • A sweater with a removable bejeweled collar. (Wear it with the rest of your sweaters when this one is at the dry cleaner.)
  • Little rhinestone kisses. It’s a subtle touch of glam for the holiday season, a flirty hint at a New Year’s Eve kiss, and a Valentine’s Day must.
  • A rich red pout.
  • An evening bag that’s equal amounts glitzy and goofy. Basically, the perfect conversation piece.
  • This mod mini skirt. At first blush, it looks like the white portion is just a curved design, but if you take a peek at the stock image, you’ll see that it’s actually a heart. On the more affordable side of things, this mini comes in at $54 and still has a bold black and white design.
  • A modern update to the classic Mary Jane pump. While not as elegant, these have a similar design with the asymmetrical strap.
  • This playful pillow. Jonathan Adler’s Friends & Family sale runs through the end of today (save 20% with code FRIENDS2015). It’s the perfect time to stock up on holiday gifts like gold zebra dishes, chic cocktail glasses, and colorful vases.
  • Also! There’s 25% off at Shopbop through Oct. 15 with code INTHEFAM25. It doesn’t apply to Tory Burch or Ferragamo (or a few other brands), which is pretty lame. I need to rein in my spending, but I’m still considering this “creme de la creme” tray.

This week, I’m coveting:

  • A chic playsuit that makes getting dressed a breeze.
  • Rivets, studs, and mirrors make these sandals a work of art. (Here’s another pair of velvet sandals with a gem-encrusted heel for under $100.)
  • A cozy pair of wool-lined gloves. Buy them now and be glad you have them when the weather gets even colder.
  • A plaid coat. Even though I already have a plaid coat for fall (seen here), I’m crazy about this navy version. I also found this red buffalo plaid hooded coat that’s on sale for $60 and a blue plaid alternative for $70.
  • This windowpane scarf. I’m not terribly fond of the blanket scarf trend, but this one is cute enough to make me want to give it a whirl.
  • A stunning double-horn pendant. It also comes in black and cream.

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
