Could it be that spring is finally here?! The signs of last week’s snowstorm already melted and yesterday was warm enough to don my new jumpsuit for outfit photos without my teeth chattering. I would have worn this number all day (it was that nice out), but we spent the afternoon biking to nearby breweries and bars with our some of the friends we’ve made in the neighborhood. It was my first time on a bike this year and I wasn’t sure I could manage to ride without getting the wide legs of the jumpsuit caught in the chain!
Other than that, it was a low key weekend. We attempted to swap out the old ceiling fan in our bedroom for a new one, but ended up emailing our electrician instead. The old fan was incredibly wobbly and we’re not sure the existing electrical box has enough support for the new fan. (While I’ve found myself to be fairly adept when it comes to house projects, crawling in the attic to install a new electrical box isn’t something I’m keen on.) I also ordered one of these sconces in brass with this shade to try in our living room. Schoolhouse Electric charges 10% for shipping and requires the customer to foot any return shipping costs, so I want to make sure I love it in person before ordering three more.

Hello! We arrived back in the United States on Monday and spent the night in Chicago before heading to Madison early Tuesday morning. The trip was wonderful (despite being sick for the first three days of it) and I have so many photos to share, along with what we did, what I’d recommend, and tips for traveling to London. (Side note: the Paravel backpack I purchased late last year was the best travel bag. I’m planning to do a full review now that I’ve actually taken it on a trip.) As expected, this week was all about getting settled, unpacked, and back into the groove at work. And, unexpectedly, shoveling out from a mid-April snowstorm. After getting a taste of spring in the U.K., I’m even more anxious for warmer weather to finally arrive!

I swear that spring is on the horizon, despite this week’s snowfall, making it the perfect time to freshen up your living space. We’ve been cleaning everything, cracking open the windows whenever the mercury creeps above 50 degrees, and adding a few new home decor items to make our space feel new again. It’s so easy to get in a decor rut once you find a piece you love, but swapping out items (or moving them around your house) is one of the easiest ways to give your home a facelift, and items from Cottage & Bungalow are perfect for a warm-weather makeover. Established in 2004, Cottage and Bungalow offers coastal furniture and beach decor and accessories that are chosen for their design and quality. Their products have been featured in a variety of national design and lifestyle magazines, including InStyle, Country Living, Coastal Living, and more.
As I’m sure you’ve gleaned, we have a mid-century-modern-meets-traditional vibe in our 1920s house. Cottage & Bungalow specializes in coastal design, but don’t let that dissuade you if your aesthetic is similar to mine. There are plenty of pieces that can fit within any decor. One of the pieces I was most excited about was this gorgeous alabaster lamp. The shape is spot on for mid-century modern decor and the stone adds a welcome natural element to the space. In another area of the house, a Dash and Albert rug from Cottage & Bungalow adds a bit of global glam to the entryway. (I had a buffalo plaid rug down for fall and winter and I couldn’t stand the heaviness of the pattern this season.) Plus, the rug is made from polypropylene, so you can just hose it down and let it air dry when it gets dirty. Other pieces I love include this quilt, a macrame throw pillow, a bar tool set, and this gorgeous rattan chair.
You can save 15% at Cottage & Bungalow through July 6, 2018 with code BEDKNOBS. Some exclusions apply due to manufacturer restrictions.
