Friday Five Under $55

April 24, 2015 by jessica 3 Comments

Find-Under-$55-04242015v2

  • A mini skirt ($52) in the most darling retro print.
  • A  pair of vintage-inspired sunglasses ($30). They also come in black.
  • A pineapple catchall bowl ($42). Put this at your entryway to collect keys and loose change. I love that the interior is painted my favorite color. (I managed to snag the Lilly Pulitzer for Target pineapple bowl. Another pineapple wouldn’t be overkill, right?)
  • A metallic woven clutch by Monserat De Lucca ($45).
  • A strappy cami ($39.50). It looks a lot like the Express cami that many people love (I don’t like the fit on me) and the J.Crew one that’s significantly more expensive. (The shorts the model is wearing are also under $55.)
  • Not Pictured: If you’re still yearning for a pair of double pearl earrings, there’s a Kenneth Jay Lane set for $18. Or just follow my lead and buy a pair of eBay for $4.

The Coveted

CurrentlyCoveting-042315

This week, I’m coveting:

  • A gold turtle for our coffee table. The shell comes off to reveal a hiding place for essentials and, better yet, it’s only $15.
  • A flirty little dress from Shopbop’s ONE by collection. It looks awfully short on the model, but it’s worth trying at $58.
  • Gedebe’s embellished bags. I can’t stop daydreaming about this new-to-me brand, even if the bags are out of my price range.
  • Fringe sandals! They also come in gold and navy, but the white is my favorite. J.Crew is also offering 30% off, so it’s a good time to snag them. (Edit: I see that the white pair is already sold out. This pair isn’t quite as cute, but they’re only $20. Might be worth a try.)
  • This DVF top. It would look so good with shorts all summer.
  • Silver sunburst earrings from Kenneth Jay Lane.
  • An affordable squash blossom necklace. Have you ever looked for vintage ones on eBay? They can go for hundreds of dollars. I’m totally fine with a new costume version.
  • Not Pictured: This pretty perforated tote.
  • Not Pictured: My favorite Prada sunglasses are 30% off today. You can see them in Monday’s post.
  • Plus: Have you taken advantage of Piperlime’s discount yet? There’s an extra 40% off sale items with code SALEONSALE. I couldn’t resist this Lele Sadoughi necklace.

HelenFicalora1

There’s been a lot of talk about Helen Ficalora this week with Monday’s post and yesterday’s giveaway, but it’s for good reason. Helen is a pioneer of the initial pendant trend, bringing her fans personalized jewelry for over a decade. A customer can mix and match charms to create a piece that reflects her personality. There’s everything from letters to animals–the monkey is my favorite–yet even the most whimsical designs are understated for a timeless look. Charms are available in yellow, white, and rose gold with many also available in sterling silver.

HelenFicaloraGiveaway-1

Mother’s Day is just around the corner on May 10, an annual reminder to shower your mom with the kind of love and attention she bestowed upon you for all these years! And why stop with mom herself? A beloved aunt, an expecting friend, a new mom, and your grandmother all deserve a little extra attention on the special day. After all, motherhood is the most difficult–and selfless–job any of us could have!

This year, treat the most important woman in your life to a keepsake she’ll treasure forever: a delicate charm necklace from Helen Ficalora. Helen is known for her timeless stamped pendants and the “Mom” version couldn’t be any more perfect for the upcoming holiday. I’m thrilled to share that one reader will win a sterling silver “Mom” charm on an 18″ fine chain to give this Mother’s Day. This prize is valued at $95.

Enter with the Rafflecopter widget below. Good luck!

I’m actually wearing the “J” charm in yesterday’s post. As you’ll see, the size of the pendant is subtle enough to wear every day.

I wish I could say it’s good to be back home, but it’s really not as lovely as our vacation in Florida! We had such a relaxing week taking day trips to nearby cities, lounging oceanside, and dining (and drinking) at various restaurants. Despite getting back Saturday evening sun-kissed and sleepy, I set an alarm for 1 a.m. to await the debut of the Lilly Pulitzer for Target collection. Did anyone else stay up for it? I know many ladies had problems accessing the site (including Kristin Davis) and I was extremely lucky to find my must-have items. I was only able to add items to my cart if I clicked the quick shopping link on the mobile search page, instead of the product page. I managed to purchase the pineapple serving bowl (it was the one item I would have thrown elbows for in-store 😉 ), two of the giraffe-print pillows for our bed (lucky Dave), a cosmetic case, a pair of pom pom shorts, and this top. Honestly, I felt ridiculous making these purchases in the middle of the night, but everything was sold out when I stopped by Target around 8:15 a.m.

It’s so nice to be home after a whirlwind week. It’s so nice to be home after a whirlwind week. We flew out to Philadelphia last Friday for a few days of exploring. It was our first time in the City of Brotherly Love and we loved every minute of it from the architecture to the restaurants, and most of all: the welcoming and friendly people. After that, we had one night at home before a flight to Denver to celebrate my cousin’s wedding. We got back to Madison late last night and have spent the day puttering around the house, getting caught up on laundry, grocery shopping, harvesting the season’s first tomatoes from the garden, and admiring just how much the hydrangeas have grown in the course of a week.
I always get a kick out of comparing views of our I always get a kick out of comparing views of our home today to the photos I took during our home inspection. (Swipe to see our main bedroom then!) While I knew the house had potential, it was hard to look past some of the owner’s “design” choices. Though, it looks like the room was destined to have a warm-toned quilt. 😂

P.S. @schoolhouse just released new colors of their popular Stillwater Floral Quilt!

And, for those interested, I’ve linked my bedroom items here: https://liketk.it/5iC8R

It also inadvertently became the weekend I made Dave eat a cheeseburger every day, between @redhotranchchicago, @eatmottst, and @smallcheval. There are worst ways to spend a weekend.

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.
