Blowing Rocks

May 7, 2015 by jessica 4 Comments

05062015-1v2

Jupiter, Fla. is one of my favorite places in the state mostly because of the Blowing Rocks Preserve. It’s got nothing on the jagged coastline of California, but it’s gorgeous in its own right with interesting rock formations and deep turquoise water. Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I was entirely overdressed for this outing. (There’s not a lot of flexibility for midday clothing changes when you’re on vacation and away from the hotel!) That didn’t stop us from kicking off our shoes to stroll along the ocean’s edge until we were ready for lunch at Little Moir’s Food Shack. The small restaurant–with the best seafood ever–is tucked away in an unassuming strip mall. Be sure to order the signature sweet potato-crusted fish. They also have an impressive beer lineup.

While we’re on the topic of must-know info, the earrings I’m wearing are from Emma McKinstry’s summer lineup. She’s pretty much a maestro when it comes to bold enamel jewelry.

Lilly in Palm Beach

May 4, 2015 by jessica 15 Comments

Outfit05042015v1

What better place to break out my newest Lilly Pulitzer dress than Palm Beach? We just drove up for the morning to walk around Worth Avenue and pop over to the Lilly Pulitzer store where I bought this tunic as an early birthday gift to myself. I’m completely obsessed with this dress, so much so that I’m considering the other print. It looks scandalously short on the model, but it’s really not that obscene. I’m 5’7″ and I didn’t feel like I was on the verge of flashing anyone…until we went to Delray Beach that afternoon for a quick stroll. Every breeze flirts with the hem!

Beachy

JCrewTunic-1

This tunic is by far the best pre-vacation purchase I’ve ever made. Not only did I wear it to the beach every day, it looks cute half-tucked into a pair of shorts–a relief since we’re a couple of months away from pool weather in Wisconsin. Go down one size if you’re lucky enough to find one online when there’s a return. (I’m wearing a small.)

While we were in Fort Lauderdale, we stayed at Snooze. It’s a renovated mid-century motel located across the street from the beach. It also has the cutest rooftop patio, where we took these photos. We didn’t spend a lot of time on the roof, since it’s only open during the motel’s daytime office hours, but it was a lovely spot to enjoy our morning coffee before heading out for the day.

Tropical Prints

BedknobsandBaubles-Outfit04202015v1

I wish I could say it’s good to be back home, but it’s really not as lovely as our vacation in Florida! We had such a relaxing week taking day trips to nearby cities, lounging oceanside, and dining (and drinking) at various restaurants. Despite getting back Saturday evening sun-kissed and sleepy, I set an alarm for 1 a.m. to await the debut of the Lilly Pulitzer for Target collection. Did anyone else stay up for it? I know many ladies had problems accessing the site (including Kristin Davis) and I was extremely lucky to find my must-have items. I was only able to add items to my cart if I clicked the quick shopping link on the mobile search page, instead of the product page. I managed to purchase the pineapple serving bowl (it was the one item I would have thrown elbows for in-store 😉 ), two of the giraffe-print pillows for our bed (lucky Dave), a cosmetic case, a pair of pom pom shorts, and this top. Honestly, I felt ridiculous making these purchases in the middle of the night, but everything was sold out when I stopped by Target around 8:15 a.m.

Bon Voyage

packing-for-FLL3

And we’re off! Dave and I are headed to sunny Fort Lauderdale, Florida for a week of beachside lounging. We also have plans to visit Palm Beach, West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Lauderdale by the Sea, and Hollywood. (Phew!) If you have any recommendations, please share them on Instagram or Twitter! (Seriously, any hidden gems for vintage or thrift shopping in Palm Beach would be a dream!) I’m planning to steer clear of the blog while we’re away, but you can always see what we’re up to on Instagram or Snapchat (find me at bedknobsbaubles).

A small moment of peace from the past weekend. I A small moment of peace from the past weekend.

I feel like I’ve been doomscrolling since the news broke of SCOTUS’ decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. My emotions run the gamut from sadness to frustration to unadulterated rage. I’m deeply disgusted by conservatives and evangelicals, but especially by liberals who supported Bernie Sanders and refused to vote for Hillary Clinton at such a crucial moment in our history. Did you know that 12% of Sanders’ primary election supporters voted for Trump in the general election? In Wisconsin alone, 51,000 of them voted for Trump — a state Trump would win by just 22,000 votes.

Your vote matters. It matters in national elections, statewide elections, and local elections. It’s crucial that Democrats organize as strategically as conservatives did and restore reproductive rights.

In the meantime, donate your time, talent, or treasure to help those facing an unwanted pregnancy. @thecut has a great list on their site with organizations to support in states likely to prohibit abortion. I’ve donated to @plannedparenthoodwi.
Reveal day is finally here! It’s been a long pro Reveal day is finally here! It’s been a long process that started back in April 2020 with a kitchen ceiling leak that was attributed to water leaking from our tub faucet and working its way through the floor and into the kitchen. Our bathroom was never anything to look at (before photos on the feed), but the leak really accelerated our plans for a full bathroom renovation when timelines — and budgets — allowed. It feels a bit surreal to have it done and I don’t think I’ll ever stop admiring it whenever I walk past!

Head to the blog today to read about two headaches that came at the tail end of our main bathroom remodel.

I am just the happiest! I keep looking at this bat I am just the happiest! I keep looking at this bathroom and thinking how lucky we are that we were able to do this! It wasn’t always easy to navigate the stressful moments, but the end result is worth it. I feel like I’m at a luxury hotel every time I shower! (And it sure beats showering with the spiders in our [basically unfinished] basement bathroom. It was like camping in our own home for the past six weeks — and I very much hate camping!)
