Shopping Guide | Black Ankle Boots

September 22, 2014 by jessica

[dropcap custom_class=”normal”]F[/dropcap]inding the perfect pair of black ankle boots for fall is taking a ridiculously long time and my wish list isn’t even that lofty. I just want a black pair with a substantial heel for navigating slippery sidewalks that doesn’t look dowdy. I’d also like to stay away from suede so I don’t have to contend with as many salt stains. And, I hate silver hardware with black leather. It looks a little too biker babe for me. I spent the morning scrolling through hundreds of options to come up with nine that meet my expectations.

Pictured top to bottom, left to right.

Under $100: Express, $70 | H&M, $50 | ASOS, $57

Under $250: Elliott Lucca, $179 | Topshop, $150 | Michael by Michael Kors, $245

Under $500: Tory Burch, $385 | Kate Spade, $425 | Cole Haan, $328

Aren’t they great? I was about to buy the Cole Haan pair, but I think I’ve changed my mind after finding that E.L. pair this morning.

So many great boots! I wouldn’t be able to choose between those either. I already have a few black boots for this year. A wedge, then a crazy Phillip Lim pair with calf hair, haha

Oooh, those Cole Haan ones are gorg. I just got a pair of the Sam Edelman ‘Petty’ boots in black leather; I wanted something with a little bit lower of a heel. LOVE ankle boots!

I love all the bits of gold hardware – just a little flash – it’s right up my alley.
The ASOS is my fave top row pick, Elliott Lucca for the second, and isn’t is marvelous, I don’t want any on the bottom row, hahaha.
So which is your favorite – or will it come down to buying each one and trying it on until you find the one that fits just right?

Originally I loved the Cole Haan ones because of the slightly pointed toe that made it feel feminine, but now I’m leaning toward the Elliott Lucca pair. The shape is great and it helps that they’re $150 cheaper!

I have worn my black booties to DEATH so I am totally on the market for a new pair! Really loving the couple with the gold accents…might have to consider those… 🙂

Everyone we met in Philly apologized for their gruff nature, despite no one actually living up to that stereotype. 😂

It’s so nice to be home after a whirlwind week. It’s so nice to be home after a whirlwind week. We flew out to Philadelphia last Friday for a few days of exploring. It was our first time in the City of Brotherly Love and we loved every minute of it from the architecture to the restaurants, and most of all: the welcoming and friendly people. After that, we had one night at home before a flight to Denver to celebrate my cousin’s wedding. We got back to Madison late last night and have spent the day puttering around the house, getting caught up on laundry, grocery shopping, harvesting the season’s first tomatoes from the garden, and admiring just how much the hydrangeas have grown in the course of a week.
I always get a kick out of comparing views of our I always get a kick out of comparing views of our home today to the photos I took during our home inspection. (Swipe to see our main bedroom then!) While I knew the house had potential, it was hard to look past some of the owner’s “design” choices. Though, it looks like the room was destined to have a warm-toned quilt. 😂

P.S. @schoolhouse just released new colors of their popular Stillwater Floral Quilt!

It also inadvertently became the weekend I made Dave eat a cheeseburger every day, between @redhotranchchicago, @eatmottst, and @smallcheval. There are worst ways to spend a weekend.

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together.
