12 of the Best Decorative Pumpkins for Autumn

August 24, 2022 by jessica Leave a Comment

ONE | TWO | THREE | FOUR | FIVE | SIX | SEVEN | EIGHT | NINE | TEN | ELEVEN | TWELVE

I know it’s early for autumnal content and I promise not to go full bore into it just yet. However, I’ve been getting a lot of fall promotions recently and if past experience is any indication, the best decorative pumpkins get swept up quickly once those emails start rolling out. My suggestion is to shop your favorites now and tuck them away until mid-September. I have No. 2 from last year, which is a steal at just $5. This year, I have my eye on No. 1. (You won’t see any jack-o-lanterns in this roundup, though, as I prefer to spend my money on pieces that are versatile enough to keep on display through Thanksgiving.)

3 Easy Ways to Make Your Home Cozy for Fall

September 22, 2021 by jessica Leave a Comment

Happy first day of fall! We had a storm the other night that ushered in a wave of cooler temperatures. It’s a welcome break in the heat that has me eager for the upcoming season and cozy moments inside. If you’re in the same autumnal mindset, here are three small changes that will make your home cozy for fall.

Bring in Warm Lighting

When it comes to creating a cozy atmosphere in your home, lighting really does the heavy lifting. Switch off those overhead lights (or at least dim them) and bring in a floor or table lamp for soft lighting in the evenings. If you have the option to hardwire something, try adding sconces to your space to bring the light down from the ceiling, which makes for a cozier experience. And nothing beats the hygge vibes of candlelight flickering. (I just bought a set of these votive holders.) Here are some options:

Top: votive holders | wood table lamp | spiced pumpkin candle
Bottom: wood and ceramic lamp | oakmoss candle | accent lamp

Layer Textures and Textiles

Switching up your throw blankets and pillows seasonally will keep your space feeling fresh — and fall is the time to layer with abandon! Choose soft fabrics, interesting textures, and bring in a pattern to add depth to your space. For those with a bigger budget, consider swapping out your curtains for a set in velvet or a rich hue. Here are a few throw pillows and blankets (plus more in this post) that caught my eye:

Top: wool knit throw | linen textured pillow cover | alpaca throw
Bottom: ivory wool pillow | herringbone throw blanket | boucle throw pillow

Incorporate Natural Materials

Another easy way to add coziness to your space is with natural materials like wood and ceramic. This can be anything from candleholders to trays to your table setting. (I mean, really, has anyone ever said a white porcelain plate is cozy? Of course not.) Think of it as an extension of the tip above but instead of layering textiles, you’re layering natural materials to create depth and warmth that lends itself to an inviting moment in your home.

Top: wood vases | wood tray | ceramic serving bowl
Bottom: cement candle holder | ceramic dishes | wood candle holders

I’d love to know how you’re making your home cozy for fall!

7 of the Best Fall Design Finds at Target

7 of the best fall design finds at Target

ONE | TWO | THREE | FOUR | FIVE | SIX | SEVEN

I know I’m not the only one who can’t enter Target without leaving with something that wasn’t on my shopping list. It’s just so easy to impulse shop when the store is full of gorgeous design finds that won’t break the bank. Above are seven of my favorites for fall decor, but I’d also like to draw your attention to two of my recent finds: a glass decanter for holiday hosting and the rug we just ordered to try in our dining room.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
