Inspiration Behind Lele Sadoughi’s Peking Opera Collection + Discount Code!

April 7, 2016 by jessica 4 Comments

A few weeks ago, I added Lele Sadoughi’s gorgeous Maraca necklace to my jewelry collection (it’s still available here), so you can imagine how thrilled I was when the designer sent over the Crystal Lily earrings I had on my wish list since their debut. The earrings are absolutely stunning, as you’ll see in the photos here and in a future outfit post, and I was curious to learn more about them. Below, you’ll find insight into Lele’s design process and the inspiration behind the luxe Peking Opera collection.

But first, here’s a bit more about Lele Sadoughi from the designer herself:

“Launching the jewelry at J Crew and directing a team at Tory Burch were both amazing experiences.  I was fortunate to work for companies that liked my aesthetic and welcomed some risks that I took. I think the reason that J Crew jewelry has been such a success is because what I like and what J Crew represents was a good combination. With my line, I am able to design for the girl that wants to stand out and is not afraid to wear something that might elicit a conversation.  Working for large brands, you always begin with the fabrics and prints because the mills have the longest lead time.  Therefore, I started with colors, textures, and prints.   I like to think I learned about the big picture; about a feeling and a mood.  Once you research a world with a specific mood, time, and place, the pieces are easier to design. I love to have a theme and story for each season. Now, I am able to create my own storyboards and really initiate the concept for each season.

“My family just moved into a 6 story townhouse in West Chelsea and we moved our offices to the top floor. It is very sun filled and calm, and just high enough to be separated from the kids downstairs. With a 1 year old and 3 year old at home, I am so fortunate to get work done and run downstairs to have lunch with my kids. I can schedule meetings with an hour break in between to make time to run out to the park. My days are very different. Sometimes I take my son to school and start work around noon. Other days, I start with a meeting or press appointment and do not make it downstairs until the afternoon.”

Lele was also very kind to extend a 20% discount to Bedknobs & Baubles readers. Head to Lele Sadoughi’s website and use code BEDKNOBSANDBAUBLES to take 20% off of everything — including sale items! Then come back and let me know what you bought!

Psst…if you love the Lily earrings as much as I do, snag them for nearly half off at Bloomingdale’s right now. They’re on sale and you’ll save an extra 25% with code FRIENDS through April 10. (Thanks to Jenn for the hot tip during our conversation on this post yesterday!)

The Coveted

This week, I’m smitten with:

  • All of J.Crew’s new arrivals. Lime isn’t really my color, but I can’t stop thinking about this neon skirt. (This striped skirt is also on my wish list.)
  • A graphic white cuff. It’s a must for spring.
  • Striped kitten heels! I’ve wanted them ever since I spotted this image on Pinterest. (I’m actually really tempted to buy them. They’d be great for work.)
  • This pearl cocktail ring. With Piperlime’s demise on the horizon, I bet we’ll start seeing deeper discounts. Add your favorites to your wish list.
  • A flirty little romper.
  • This bright yellow dress. It’s on sale, so it might be hard to find your size. Check here and here.
  • A pretty pineapple key fob.

PSA: Remember the red dress I wrote about last week? I ended up ordering it and it arrived yesterday. There are two pleats right above the tush. It’s barely noticeable in the stock image and probably isn’t a big deal if you have a straight figure. However, if you’re like me and have ample curves back there, don’t get it. It’s incredibly unflattering.

This week, I’m smitten with:

  • A beautiful dress reminiscent of Hokusai’s woodblock print The Wave. Kent Wang actually has a pocket square of the print. I gave it to Dave for Christmas a couple of years ago, but I might have to “borrow” it to tie to the handle of a handbag this spring.
  • This bag in a rich, inky navy. There’s also a hot pink version that I’m obsessing over.
  • The playful fringe hem on this boxy sweater. I’m also loving the eyelet hem on this one.
  • Pink sunglasses. It’s pretty much the easiest way to brighten your look for spring, even if you’re still wearing wool coats.
  • Lele Sadoughi’s spring pieces, especially this pair of earrings.
  • Sophisticated sage flats.

Loving Lately

March 17, 2014 by jessica Leave a Comment

Lately, I’m loving:

  • This beautiful druzy ring c/o Meghna Designs that happens to coordinate perfectly with my Lele Sadoughi necklace. Have you seen Meghna’s Kickstarter campaign to raise money for her fine jewelry collection? By supporting the project, you can own a piece of her collection for a fraction of the retail price. (Learn more about her in the “Behind the Baubles” feature.)
  • The Veronica Mars movie. I never did watch the series when it was on TV, but I was hooked a few weeks ago when Dave suggested we try it. After many evenings of binge-watching, the movie was a satisfying way to wrap up my time with Neptune (and took the edge off the crappy series’ finale).
  • Dave’s new car. We’ve been a one-car household for about a month after his old car bit the dust. As much as I’ve enjoyed our carpooled commutes, I’m going to enjoy his Volkswagen Eos even more. I mean, c’mon, we freaking own a convertible now!
  • The Tory Burch shoes I ordered. Aren’t they all sorts of nautical-meets-Mod perfection? I can’t wait for their arrival. They’re such a splurge after last month’s shopping binge, but I’ve been tucking away $50 per paycheck for a splurge and I’ve had some blog revenue and eBay cash to spend. Let’s just hope they run truer to size than this pair of Tory Burch shoes did.
  • St. Patrick’s Day. Hope you have a fun day!

Bauble of the Week

April 14, 2013 by jessica Leave a Comment

I’ve been seeing Lele Sadoughi’s jewelry pop up at more retailers lately and I’m thrilled that she’s getting the recognition she deserves for her incredible line. You can even preview her new celestial-inspired collection on Moda Operandi. I’m smitten with the “Meteor Shower” necklace. I can’t afford it now, but it doesn’t mean I’m not saving my pennies for its late-summer release.

You can learn more about Lele in her “Behind the Baubles” feature.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
