This post is in partnership with NOVICA.

Novica $50 Giveaway 2020
earrings c/o NOVICA

I think we can call agree that this year has been incredibly challenging. I miss so much about pre-COVID normalcy, not the least of which is being able to travel unfettered whether it’s to an international destination or just to a friend’s house in the neighborhood. I miss museums, exploring new cultures and cities, trying new food, and having a break from the monotony of what’s become a very humdrum work-from-home lifestyle. While it may be some time before borders reopen and travel restrictions lift, you satisfy some of that wanderlust with artisan goods from NOVICA. (And, below, there’s a chance to win a $50 to get you started!)

If you’re not already familiar with NOVICA, it’s a marketplace that connects international artisans directly to consumers. NOVICA works with other social organizations such as National Geographic and KIVA to support fair-trade practices to empower artisans and uplift communities across the globe. I’ve collaborating with NOVICA a few times over the years and each time I’m blown away by the beauty of the items I’ve selected and the care that goes into each package — there’s even an insert that shares more information about the artist. This time around, I picked out a pair of earrings (pictured above) from Desi Antari, a jeweler from Bali and Java. They are intricate, pick up the light beautifully, and make me incredibly eager to pack a suitcase for a warm destination with these as my only piece of jewelry.

Here are some other items I love:

  1. A pair of modern-yet-feminine earrings, also by Desi Antari.
  2. Prefer silver jewelry? How about these earrings?
  3. A selection of handcrafted face masks since we won’t be going without a mask anytime soon!
  4. A pair of beautiful wood spoons.
  5. A handcrafted domino set for game night.
  6. A set of cheerful hand-woven dishtowels.
  7. A gorgeous wood serving bowl.
  8. A set of spreading knives with agate handles to accompany your next cheese board.
  9. A set of six handblown tumblers from Mexico that are begging to be part of an outdoor gathering this summer.
  10. Get a jump on next year’s Christmas decor with this deer candle holder.

Enter to win $50 to NOVICA!

The randomly selected winner will receive a $50 code to use on the NOVICA website. It will be emailed the day after the giveaway closes, so be sure to include your email address when you enter! The code expires on January 31, 2021.

Finding the perfect Mother’s Day gift can be a challenge when something from a large retailer doesn’t seem special enough. I usually plan months ahead and purchase gifts from art fairs and galleries to tuck away for special occasions.

Luckily, the need to stockpile presents is lessened with NOVICA. In association with National Geographic, NOVICA features the work from artisans around the world. The site is expansive, featuring everything from Mexican blown glass to West African jewelry. To make your shopping easier, there’s a curated Mother’s Day section to guide you to the perfect gift for mom.

Here are my favorites:

  1. Glass Pitcher, $39.49
  2. Porcelain Jar, $124.95
  3. Amethyst Earrings, $57.95
  4. Mirror, $172.95
  5. Stacking Rings, $94.95
  6. Cocktail Ring, $57.95
  7. Beaded Box, $62.95
  8. Glass Bowl, $47.95

NOVICA is giving one reader a $40 gift certificate to put toward an artisan pick of your own. To enter, just scour the site and let me know what you’d love to give (or get!). As always, there are bonus entries for your continued support. Good luck!

Giveaway: $40 to NOVICA

December 14, 2012 by jessica Leave a Comment

NOVICA is a leading fair trade website, showcasing the work of artisans across the world. Of course this gives you the opportunity to find hundreds of unique items in one place, but NOVICA’s mission is really about supporting global artisans in a very personal way. (As you shop the site, you’ll even see biographies about each person.)

The challenge with supporting so many artisans is that the NOVICA site is expansive! I shopped with them last year and it took me hours to scour the site and settle on an item. That sentiment was shared by other customers and NOVICA responded with its new Gift Finder. Now, those hard-to-find gifts are easier to discover. You can narrow down those choices by gender, price point or even interest. (Cocktail gifts? Yes, please!)

Check out the new Gift Finder, then come back and let me know what you like on the site. One reader will win a $40 gift certificate!

Over the weekend, we drove to Michigan and welcome Over the weekend, we drove to Michigan and welcomed this little lady to the family! She’s a two-year old snow Bengal that was surrendered after being bullied by the other cats in her home. We’re pretty sure she’s a seal lynx point Bengal, which has Siamese in the lineage, based on her vibrant, slightly crossed blue eyes. She is the sweetest, softest, most playful, and unbelievably talkative little girl. We’re crazy about her!

We haven’t picked a name just yet, though. We have some ideas, but we’re waiting to get to know her personality more. 😊
