Lisi Lerch Ivy Necklace Review-1-4

I can’t believe it’s Monday already! We had an extended weekend that began on Thursday with a trip to visit my parents in northern Wisconsin. We didn’t do much other than swing by the Tall Ships Festival in Duluth, Minn., which was awful. As an event manager, I can be unfairly critical of other events, but this so poorly run that it made for a sour experience. Oh well. Not all weekend outings can be stellar, right? At least it was a beautiful day!

In other news, I finally ponied up the cash to purchase Adobe Lightroom. Game. Changer. Photo editing is a breeze and images look so much better edited in Lightroom versus Photoshop where I’m far too likely to screw up the color. (I’m really tan this year compared to my normal ultra-pale skin tone. It throws me off and I find myself removing orange hues from photos!) I also scooped up this summer dress from Target (available online in black). I’m not ready to start dressing for fall just yet, especially when tropical prints look so good with this necklace from Lisi Lerch. Lisi is basically the queen of tassel jewelry and I’m thrilled to share a “Behind the Baubles” interview with her later this week! (One quick note about the necklace: the tassel was askew after its trip through the mail, but a quick clamp in a hair straightener fixed it.)

Spanish Steps

Another day, another D.C. post! During a morning stroll past the embassies, Dave suggested we take a short detour to the Spanish Steps in the Kalorama neighborhood. Constructed in 1911, this park is surprisingly secluded and tranquil for being so close to the busy streets of Dupont. I wouldn’t recommend making a special trip to the steps, but it’s a nice stop if you’re in the ‘hood.

Even though stores are saturated with fall clothing, the #PSL is only a week away, and Labor Day is fast approaching, I just can’t bear to turn away from my summer favorites just yet. My summer was cut a bit short, thanks to my broken foot which made leaving the house in June and July a huge hassle. (Crutches are the worst thing, aren’t they?) Now that I’m footloose and fancy free (er, cast-free), I’ve been milking the last bit of summer in gauzy dresses and non-doctor-approved sandals. (If she had her way, I’d still be wearing sneakers.) We haven’t nailed down our Labor Day weekend plans just yet, but I suspect it will involved plenty of time outdoors taking in the last precious moments of the season. What are you up to?

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
