Bedknobs & Baubles chronicles the things I love most: style, interior design, travel and, of course, costume jewelry. I often submit to magpie-like tendencies and have the jewelry collection to prove it.

Outfit: Mod Squad

I had this dress bookmarked for awhile, but was hesitant to pull the trigger since it’s unlike anything else in my closet. But that’s exactly what I love about it. The a-line shift style is unbelievably comfortable and the lightweight jacquard is a nice option for whenever the weather finally does warm up. (I put a coat on right after we snapped these photos.)

On another note, how cute are the Chloe sunglasses with the scalloped detail? DITTO sent them over for a review that will be up tomorrow!

Currently Coveting

Right now, I’m coveting:

  • A swimsuit in my favorite Liberty print would be a fun splurge for our upcoming vacation
  • A pair of delicate earrings made of Mother of Pearl and blue topaz
  • This carefree dress
  • A cheerful iPhone case
  • A colorful clutch that will go with just about everything you wear this spring and summer
  • A pair of emerald side chairs - I can’t afford this set, but it serves as inspiration for scouting garage sales
  • A white belt with a gold metal bow for under $14

Review: Kitsch Hair Ties

Much to Dave’s dismay, I wear my hair up a lot. My hair just can’t retain body without the help of a curling iron, Velcro rollers and a miracle. It’s precisely why I can’t leave the house without a hair elastic slipped around my wrist or a dozen tucked into my bag and my car (in lieu of money in the change drawer). These hair ties from Kitsch are so much prettier than the standard elastic and make a midday ponytail look like an intentional beauty choice. (I’m partial to the glittery “Berry Bling” set.)

Stay tuned for information on how to win a set of your own during the 12 Days of Holiday Giveaways! It all starts Friday.

When my cousin’s wedding invitation landed in my mailbox, I did what most of us do: proclaim (in a closet full of clothes) that I had absolutely nothing to wear. I’m quite thankful for my lack of party-perfect dresses, otherwise I wouldn’t have purchased this dress at J.Crew. The ultra versatile frock has already become one of my favorites.

When I bought this pair of sandals, I thought they’d be the only neon item in my closet. As it turns out, they were just a gateway to even more vibrant items. This dress was the perfect way to experiment ($18!) - and the perfect backdrop for an equally bright purse.

Last weekend’s summery temperatures were perfect for a morning at the farmers’ market - and for this breezy Diane von Furstenberg dress. I had fallen for this dress when it was first released, but couldn’t afford it at full price. Patience and perseverance (blind obsession?) paid off a year later when I found it on eBay for $60. Now, if only I could have that same luck with a certain Kate Spade clutch topped with a pineapple clasp.

I love penciling in museums and beach time, but the best part of vacation planning is choosing my wardrobe - starting with the accessories. Here are my bejeweled picks for this year’s Floridian escape.

{ Sartorial Summary: Bracelet - Diane von Furstenberg; Ring - Kate Spade; Earrings & Necklace - Wendy Mink Jewelry }

Diane von Furstenberg has long been my favorite designer. In fact, my first clothing item with a coveted label came from her collection: a signature wrap dress with gingko leaves splashed across it. I had just started my first “real” job and didn’t have a lot of disposable income, but I saved my pennies to purchase that dress and it remains one of my favorites. So, you can imagine how thrilling it was to win DVF’s Twitter giveaway in December and welcome the Harper wristlet into my wardrobe.
