Dark Floral

As you’ve probably gathered, I’m not much of an Old Navy shopper. By in large, I think the quality of the garments is too low even for the price and the thought put into designs is lacking. However, there are times when Old Navy does it right: insanely affordable denim, basic t-shirts, and this dress. Prints are a hard thing for a discounted retailer to pull off, which is why I typically go with solid colors if I’m shopping for inexpensive duds, but Old Navy nails it with this multi-colored floral dress. The variety of flowers and colors in the pattern make it look more expensive than it is, unlike the other two-color prints for this dress that look cheap.

As with any low-cost apparel, pairing it with luxe accessories elevates the look. I went with my go-to Ferragamo flats and a DVF clutch. Both of these have high price tags, but the cost per wear makes it worthwhile. I normally wore out a pair of black flats in the $100-150 range within a year. The Ferragamo pair still looks brand new. I’ll have them resoled when they start to look worn. The clutch is one of my absolute favorite accessories. I splurged on it a couple of years ago and haven’t had a desire to buy another black clutch since. The classic shape won’t go out of style and it’s large enough for all of your essentials.

I haven’t shopped at Express since college when I needed a last-minute sparkly top for barhopping. So, you can imagine my surprise when I found the perfect little party dress at the retailer on sale for around $70. The metallic navy material is gorgeous and you know I’m a sucker for a full skirt. With a tuxedo jacket, it’s perfect for the upcoming cocktail awards reception I’m planning at work.

Loving Lately

November 18, 2013 by jessica Leave a Comment

Lately, I’m loving:

  • This DVF clutch from Loehmann’s that came to $55 after shipping. It’s a shame that my new iPhone (in gold!) doesn’t fit inside. Pretty > Impractical
  • A holiday sweater. We’re going to the Twin Cities the weekend of December 14th for a handful of birthday celebrations. We’re all expected to wear holiday sweaters, but I just can’t spend money on an ugly version. (I’m such a party pooper!) I’ll wear a tartan sweater with a light-up necklace and earrings instead.
  • Eric Stonestreet’s eggnog shake as described in the latest issue of Bon Appetit: eggnog, peppermint ice cream and rum blended together. Happy holidays, indeed.

A small moment of peace from the past weekend. I A small moment of peace from the past weekend.

I feel like I’ve been doomscrolling since the news broke of SCOTUS’ decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. My emotions run the gamut from sadness to frustration to unadulterated rage. I’m deeply disgusted by conservatives and evangelicals, but especially by liberals who supported Bernie Sanders and refused to vote for Hillary Clinton at such a crucial moment in our history. Did you know that 12% of Sanders’ primary election supporters voted for Trump in the general election? In Wisconsin alone, 51,000 of them voted for Trump — a state Trump would win by just 22,000 votes.

Your vote matters. It matters in national elections, statewide elections, and local elections. It’s crucial that Democrats organize as strategically as conservatives did and restore reproductive rights.

In the meantime, donate your time, talent, or treasure to help those facing an unwanted pregnancy. @thecut has a great list on their site with organizations to support in states likely to prohibit abortion. I’ve donated to @plannedparenthoodwi.
Reveal day is finally here! It’s been a long pro Reveal day is finally here! It’s been a long process that started back in April 2020 with a kitchen ceiling leak that was attributed to water leaking from our tub faucet and working its way through the floor and into the kitchen. Our bathroom was never anything to look at (before photos on the feed), but the leak really accelerated our plans for a full bathroom renovation when timelines — and budgets — allowed. It feels a bit surreal to have it done and I don’t think I’ll ever stop admiring it whenever I walk past!

Head to the blog today to read about two headaches that came at the tail end of our main bathroom remodel.

I am just the happiest! I keep looking at this bat I am just the happiest! I keep looking at this bathroom and thinking how lucky we are that we were able to do this! It wasn’t always easy to navigate the stressful moments, but the end result is worth it. I feel like I’m at a luxury hotel every time I shower! (And it sure beats showering with the spiders in our [basically unfinished] basement bathroom. It was like camping in our own home for the past six weeks — and I very much hate camping!)

The rest of the shower tile will be installed on Monday and then they’ll starting laying the floor tile. I can’t wait!
