On the Right Foot: Storing Peonies to Bloom Months Later, Sunshine Guilt, A Chic Kaftan & More!

June 10, 2024 by jessica Leave a Comment

Above: Snapshots from Sitges, Spain — the Amazon beach tote was perfect for travel.

You can find a more affordable alternative to Ancient Greek Sandals’ Apli Eleftheria style right this way.

France released a postage stamp that smells like baguettes.

Do you have “sunshine guilt?”

If your social media is anything like mine, you’ve already heard of Dan Pelosi’s chicken pesto meatballs. I made them last week and they deserve the hype!

The latest roundup of covetable finds. I bought the earrings for my birthday last month!

Moody living rooms are trending. Here’s how to keep yours from looking gloomy.

Loving this mini kaftan dress in black.

Watching this video will give you a better appreciation for the cost of saffron. I had no idea it was so labor-intensive!

This console table is incredible, thanks to those sculptural legs! I wish I had a place for it.

Did you know that you can store cut peonies and have them bloom at a later date? Here’s how to do it.

Palm Royale has been renewed for a second season!

Notable Purchases, Vol. 1

May 29, 2024 by jessica Leave a Comment

Instead of recapping every new purchase each month, I’m going to take a different approach and whittle it down to a shorter roundup of the “greatest hits.” These are the standouts of the month that will eventually run the gamut from clothing to décor to beauty to household necessities — anything that I bought, loved, and thought you might want to know about, too!

Here are this month’s most notable items:

  • J.Crew popover shirt and matching shorts – After buying this set in red earlier this year, I knew I needed to add the black version to my wardrobe before it sold out. Wearing the pieces together is such a breezy, pulled together look for summer, and black is a wonderful backdrop for statement jewelry. The top is long like a tunic, so it gives the illusion of being a dress without worry that the wind will kick up the hem and it’s easy to bike in. I went with a medium on top and a large on bottom. I’d say that the top is more generously sized than the bottom. I likely could have gone with a small on top without it making much difference.
  • Jenni Kayne ‘Everyday’ sweater (also available at Shopbop) – I’ve had this sweater on my wish list for what feels like ages and finally decided to see what all of the fuss was about over Jenni Kayne sweaters. It’s really quite lovely in person! It’s cut well and the fabric has a heavier hand feel rather than feeling cheap. I’m really happy with it and maybe a little bummed (just a little) that cooler weather is on its way out! I tried both a medium and large. I preferred a more classic cut that the medium offered, but you could absolutely go up a size without it looking sloppy.
  • Amazon mesh beach tote – I’m sure you’ve seen this tote or one like it making its rounds on social media — and for good reason, as it turns out. I picked this up for our recent trip to Barcelona and it was the perfect travel piece. I only brought a small crossbody bag for everyday wear and used this as a shopping bag and a carryall for the umbrella, beach towels, and whatever else we picked up throughout the day. The bag itself is lightweight and packs virtually flat so it doesn’t take up much space in your suitcase. I also really liked the mesh so sand could sift out before we left the beach.
  • Gacimy gold-plated hoop earrings – If you’re in the market for a costume, lightweight, mid-size hoop earring, this is it. I don’t like to bring nice jewelry with me on vacation — with exception of the gold bracelet that doesn’t leave my wrist — so these versatile hoops were great and worked well with my summery items.
  • Target marble tray – This marble tray is such a steal at $30. The ribbed texture on the outside makes it more interesting than typical tray. I’ve been using it on our coffee for Instax prints.

On The Right Foot: Thoughts on Open-Concept Living, an Affordable Marble Tray, a Summer Side Dish & More!

May 6, 2024 by jessica Leave a Comment

The weekend kicked off on Friday with my debut as an artist at Madison’s Gallery Night. One of my friends coaxed me into doing it and I wasn’t sure what to expect — but I did sell a few pieces! It feels a bit surreal to know that there are people who have one of my pieces in their home right now! Other than that, the weekend was spent running errands, gardening and prepping the yard for a few perennials I have coming my way, and trip planning for Barcelona.

Broadway’s The Great Gatsby promises spectacular 1920’s costumes.

A few new finds for outdoor dining.

This avocado and cucumber salad looks like the perfect summer side dish.

Using the 60-30-10 rule in your home.

I’m disappointed that this dress is on backorder. I wanted to buy it before my trip!

I made this rhubarb pie over the weekend.

Here’s what we know about season three of And Just Like That…

Is it time to get rid of open-concept floor plans? I vote yes!

I recently purchased this marble tray from Target. It’s a great piece especially at that price. It’d be great for displaying Instax photos!

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
