The Comfiest Loungewear

February 12, 2018 by jessica 3 Comments

Garnet Hill Easy Knit Organic Cotton Pajamas

It’s not uncommon for me to slip into loungewear the moment I get home from work. The change in uniform is a signal to wind down and relax after a long day, and it feels perfectly indulgent to wear something unfussy. However, there’s a fine line between comfortable and sloppy, and I never want to veer into the latter even when I’m at home! That’s why I’m crazy about this comfortable sleepwear set from Garnet Hill. The painterly stripes of the matching set feel modern and pulled together without looking juvenile, but the best part is that they’re made from Green Cotton. Farmed without harmful pesticides or chemical defoliants, organic Green Cotton fibers are refined using less water, less energy, and less pollution.

Weekend Links

Weekend Links 02.10.18

Happy Saturday! This weekend we have a post-holiday gathering with Dave’s family, I get to pretend I’m Nina García as a judge for this event (and yesterday I realized I actually have to talk to introduce myself to the crowd — ugh, I have the worst anxiety about public speaking of any kind), and I’m going to get to work on more painting. Speaking of which, I’m going to incorporate more home posts into my content over here. I was trying to keep everything house-related on Curated Couple, and I still plan to keep that as a diary of our house updates, but the house is so ingrained into what I do each weekend that it feels weird to completely cut out a large part of my life. So, think of those posts as the “Bedknobs” portion of my blog title! I’ll still keep the emphasis on style, of course, but I’ll pepper in some of the fun home content and things we’re working on.

Weekend Links:

  • McDonald’s is giving away a “Bling Mac” ring worth $12,500.
  • Nine sheet mask reviews.
  • Erin’s design-focused guide to Portland makes me want to book a trip immediately.
  • Dave found this Etsy shop yesterday. To say that I’m obsessed with their light fixtures would be an understatement. I’m going to measure to see if this would fit at the top of our stairs.
  • Since I’m obviously a Gucci fan girl, I enjoyed this old article about how the brand embraced their logo despite the popularity of minimalism and logo-less designs.
  • Add panache to your cocktails with homemade maraschino cherries. It looks so easy and probably tastes a lot better than the bright red, overly candied version at the grocery store.
  • The inspiration behind Tory Burch’s carnation-filled runway.
  • Maayan Zilberman turns making candy into an art form.
  • How to know if your stylish home investment will be considered dated or classic.
  • Wow your sweetheart this Valentine’s Day with a meal of French bistro classics.

Finds Under $50:

  • Sophisticated champagne coupes to elevate your bar.
  • A sweet sundress to tuck away until spring.
  • Earrings that look like ribbons: here, here, and here.
  • Love the springtime stripes of this sweater, but the traditional navy and white version is great, too!
  • A sassy notepad for your desk.
  • Micropleats add interest to this top.
  • Oversize earrings for $14 is a great deal!

Earlier This Week:

  • I made the biggest sartorial splurge of my life. (I’ll do a post next week about what actually fits inside. I had a few people ask about that after I posted the bag on Instagram Stories, so I figured I’d show everyone in case it’s on your wish list, too.)
  • Valentine gift ideas for her (you?) and him.
  • At the end of 2017, I realized that I missed the little round ups I used to post that recounted some of the previous month’s snapshots. So, I’m bringing that back. Some are images that made it to Instagram, others are just fun things on my phone.

Valentine Gifts for Him

2018 Valentine Gift Guide for Him

We’re not much for Valentine’s Day. It doesn’t seem worth the hype to dress up and battle crowds for a night out when we’re much more content with ordering a heart-shaped pizza and sharing a special bottle of beer. This year, however, I surprised Dave this week with an early Valentine’s Day gift: a standing desk delivered to his office. They’re the best heathy work furniture shipped from SpassWay in Milwaukee. They can’t guarantee a delivery date, but I ordered Dave’s on Monday, it shipped Tuesday, and was delivered in Madison on Wednesday. Obviously, it didn’t have too far to travel, though. If you’re struggling to find the perfect gift for the guy in your life, I rounded up a few ideas that have been hits ’round here. Most can still be ordered for arrival in time for Feb. 14.

Slippers – This is such a popular holiday gift, but it’s a great option if he doesn’t already have a pair of cozy slippers. I gave Dave a pair of these deerskin-lined slippers for his birthday in December and he loves them. The company needs some lead time, though, so you won’t have them in time. (But definitely keep that idea in your back pocket for a birthday or the holiday season.)

Concert Tickets – Check the touring schedule for a few of his favorite bands to see if any are playing in your area in the next few months. An experience-centered gift is always more meaningful (and fun!) than a physical object.

Decanter Set – If he’s a whiskey or bourbon connoisseur — or just a big fan of his home bar — up his bartending game with a luxe decanter set with matching glasses.

Bourbon – A nice bottle of his favorite spirit is always appreciated.

Wallet – Upgrade a ratty wallet with a beautiful Cordovan leather one.

Vinyl Subscription – Vinyl is becoming more and more popular. If he’s working on expanding his collection, sign him up for a vinyl subscription service. Many offer limited edition pressings of records with unique designs. Here’s a roundup of services to find the best one for him.

Speaker – I bought this for Dave for Christmas and I wasn’t sure how it would go over since tech is really his arena, but it’s proving itself worthy. It has great sound for being a portable speaker and apparently it’s waterproof, making it great for the beach or pool. We’re going to use it in our backyard once the weather warms up.

Piegram – Who doesn’t love a mini pie?!

Valentine Gifts for You

2018 Valentine Gift Guide for Her

I have a men’s Valentine’s Day gift guide in the works for tomorrow, but I wanted to focus on the ladies first. After all, don’t we just happen to give ourselves the best gifts? 😉 I’m not one to covet items emblazoned with hearts, so here’s a more refined roundup of romantic and indulgent gifts that you’ll enjoy long after Feb. 14 has passed.

Cocktail Glasses – How gorgeous are these?! We don’t really need more crystal glasses for our bar, but I can’t get over the pretty scalloped design of this set.

Framed Print – Frame a photo from a favorite vacation to relive that moment each time you look at it. I’m looking at getting a couple printed to hang in my closet.

Pajamas – I’m all about silky cami and short sets for bed. The lace detail on these make them incredibly sexy, too!

Bottle Opener – This is a great option to give to a friend along with her favorite bottle of wine.

Sleep Mask – Nothing beats a good night’s rest. Splurge on a luxurious silk sleep mask to catch those Zs in style!

Fragrance – A bouquet of roses is nice and all, but I’d prefer to enjoy the fragrance in a more long-lasting way. This romantic cologne is made of seven types of roses.

Earrings – These sweet studs make for an affordable, everyday piece of jewelry.

Blush – I’m not sure I could justify the cost of the YSL blush at any other time of the year, but it’s awfully gorgeous and just think of how many Instagram-worthy moments you’ll have with it displayed on your vanity!

Wallet – This is the ultimate little luxury for Valentine’s Day (aside from going all out on diamonds, of course). If blush isn’t your thing, it also comes in black.

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
