Lust List | Tory Burch Minaudiere

October 24, 2014 by jessica 5 Comments

[dropcap custom_class=”normal”]I[/dropcap]t’s not like I needed anything from the Tory Burch Private Sale, but this metallic lace minaudiere was such a lovely way to treat myself to an event well done. White and gold is one of my favorite color combinations and I love that the lattice design keeps this from being basic. I just placed the order, but I have a feeling it’ll be something I’ll reach for year after year. (Let’s be honest, I’m also pretty excited to finally have a minaudiere with a strap to keep my hands free for cocktails.)

P.S. If you love the quilted Fleming bag as much as I do, the mini version in pink is on sale at Cusp.

I’ve ridden a horse exactly one time in my life and I hated every minute of it, but that doesn’t mean I’m not fond of equestrian style so long as it stays in my closet and far, far away from the ranch. I’m kicking myself for not snagging this shirt dress with the recent Friends & Fans promotion.

Not many of us can afford a Marni necklace, but we can all snag the look of the brand’s signature ribbon-tie bauble for much less with this Topshop piece.

And, I’m happy to report that my biggest annual event (a B2B expo and the reason I haven’t been posting often over the last few weeks) went swimmingly yesterday! Months of stress and working weekends paid off and now I’m ready for another vacation. (Isn’t that always the truth?) We’re considering a long weekend in Puerto Rico, which is surprisingly affordable in November.

Postcards | Amsterdam

Amsterdam-4

[dropcap custom_class=”normal”]W[/dropcap]hile I was in college, my closest friend from high school went to Den Haag to study art. It wasn’t until my junior year that I was able to go to The Netherlands to visit her. It was my first time out of the country, which makes makes The Netherlands even more special to me. (That and Dutch ancestry on my mom’s side of the family.) When we booked our summer trip to Brussels, I just had to add a daytrip to Amsterdam to the itinerary. It was $80 roundtrip on the Thalys with a 6 a.m. departure time. We arrived in Amsterdam two hours later and set off to explore the city. We kept the agenda fairly open, which allowed for plenty of time to wander around the city, visit the Rijksmuseum, add a piece of Delftware to my collection, and stop at Banketbakkerij Lanskroon for the best stroopwafel ever.

Bauble of the Week

October 19, 2014 by jessica 3 Comments

[dropcap custom_class=”normal”]M[/dropcap]any of J.Crew’s pieces are too ostentatious for my taste, so I was happily surprised to stumble across this understated necklace on Net-a-Porter. It’s not on the brand’s website yet, but it’s worth keeping an eye out for. The sparsely placed lilac crystals add just enough interest to the sleek choker.

Savings Alert | 20% Julie Vos Discount

[dropcap custom_class=”normal”]I[/dropcap]f you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time, you’ll know I’m a huge fan of Julie Vos’ jewelry. (Spot her gems in recent outfit posts here and here.) Her work is basically what you’d expect to find in the jewelry box of a glamorous globetrotter with finely wrought architectural details and a colorful array of semiprecious stones. One of my top picks for the season is the beautiful Acanthus Cuff (above), which was featured in the October 2014 issue of Vogue. I also love every piece in the opulent Baroque collection.

Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

Finishing our guest room has been a focus of ours Finishing our guest room has been a focus of ours this year, and the cute Teig Lamp from Schoolhouse is such a charming addition to the space. It’s named for the German word for “dough,” which is perfect for its soft, petite shape.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
