Style File | Rainy Days with Joules

[dropcap custom_class=”normal”]A[/dropcap]utumn rain always seems to catch me by surprise. Just yesterday I neglected to peek at Weather Underground and scampered off to work in a pair of ballet flats only to find myself dashing through a downpour after work. My car wasn’t far away, but it was still enough time for my shoes to fill with water (and if you think an evening commute is bad, try it with wet, cold feet). That miserable experience offered plenty of motivation to arm myself with an arsenal of rainy day attire that can handle the chilly precipitation, starting with a pair of Joules rain boots.

I already own a pair Joules wellies in turquoise, which I adored last winter, but I’d love to add a more subdued pair to my wardrobe in either olive or black. The glossy finish pairs well with classic, sophisticated items. Try a cropped quilted jacket and a menswear-inspired scarf for a casual look or go glam with a faux fur scarf (it also comes in the prettiest emerald green) and a cozy wool coat. Whatever you do, make sure you stick with a saffiano leather purse. The textured finish repels water and keeps the bag looking pristine.

Outfit | Fall Floral

[dropcap custom_class=”normal”]T[/dropcap]his Ted Baker skirt was my first purchase for fall and it has already become one of my favorites. The dark floral print is stunning and the skirt is impeccably made with a crinoline lining to help keep it’s flouncy shape all day. Beyond that–and most importantly–I feel pretty and confident in it, which really should be the litmus test for any new wardrobe addition.

Bauble of the Week

[dropcap custom_class=”normal”]W[/dropcap]hile I was browsing Shopbop the other day, I came across these gorgeous gold and pearl ear cuffs by Amber Sceats. I hadn’t heard of the designer before, but it wasn’t long until I found myself on the designer’s site adding item after item to my fantasy jewelry box. This organic bow bracelet in gold tops my wish list.

Wardrobe Welcome

So I may have gone to a beer fest last weekend and I may have had a little too much to drink and I may have ordered a pair of shoes. Cobalt snakeskin flats, in fact.

They also come in black or natural, if you’re into that sort of thing.

If there was ever a time to shop the weekly “Currently Coveting” post, this is it. Everything featured is under $175, including this gorgeous sequin skirt which is a great alternative to the one featured here. I also have my eye on this budget-friendly dress. I was originally considering it in black, but the print is awfully fun.

For those of you who don’t know about my day job, I’m an event manager for a local business magazine. We have our annual B2B expo coming up in two weeks and I’m running around like mad trying to get everything checked off my to-do list. (It’s this time of year that Dave calls me “Stressica” instead of Jessica.) Please forgive me for any unexpected silences and know that I’m finding comfort in the new Tory Burch flats I ordered on Saturday (a purchase fueled by that afternoon’s beer fest). I’m counting down the minutes until they arrive today.

Was anyone awake to see the lunar eclipse the other night? I’m bummed I missed it!

Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
