Loving Lately

November 18, 2013 by jessica Leave a Comment

Lately, I’m loving:

  • This DVF clutch from Loehmann’s that came to $55 after shipping. It’s a shame that my new iPhone (in gold!) doesn’t fit inside. Pretty > Impractical
  • A holiday sweater. We’re going to the Twin Cities the weekend of December 14th for a handful of birthday celebrations. We’re all expected to wear holiday sweaters, but I just can’t spend money on an ugly version. (I’m such a party pooper!) I’ll wear a tartan sweater with a light-up necklace and earrings instead.
  • Eric Stonestreet’s eggnog shake as described in the latest issue of Bon Appetit: eggnog, peppermint ice cream and rum blended together. Happy holidays, indeed.

Bauble of the Week

I included this Tiffany ring in Thursday’s “Currently Coveting” post, but its Art Deco design and engraved daisy pattern deserve the spotlight this week—and a place in my jewelry box. I’ve been gazing dreamily at this ring everyday for well over a week. Even though I don’t think I’ll find a little blue box under the Christmas tree, it’s a mighty fine contender for my 2014 tax return splurge.

14 Must-Have Holiday Handbags

November 15, 2013 by jessica Leave a Comment

Last week, a friend asked for help pinpointing a holiday clutch. (Why are clutches always the hardest accessory to find in a pinch?) I spent hours sifting through party purses to find the brightest, shiniest and wittiest bags for the holidays. The Ted Baker clutch is my favorite, but it seems the blue version is now sold out. I could happily settle with the rose gold version. I’m also smitten with Kotur’s surrealist clutch.*

1. Ted Baker, $225 // 2. ASOS, $38 // 3. Modcloth, $45 // 4. Kate Landry, $60 // 5. ASOS, $20 // 6. DVF, $345 // 7. Kotur, $495 // 8. La Regale, $16 // 9. Tory Burch, $595 // 10. Juicy Couture, $60 // 11. Kate Spade, $328 // 12. La Regale, $41 // 13. Nina, $98 // 14. Lulu Guinness, $820

*I’m actually planning a spring event at a gallery that coincides with a surrealism exhibit. How perfect would this clutch be? Or this one?

Behind the Baubles: Brandy Pham

Ironically, the older I get, the more likely I am to reach for a whimsical accessory. However, it’s imperative that it’s juxtaposed with a sleek ensemble. Brandy Pham nails this sweet-meet-modern aesthetic with her namesake line. I’ve certainly been crushing on her black cat ring, but the needle cuff from her latest collection quickly won me over – almost as much as the heart-melting smile of her newborn! image

Shop It: Lela Cuff, $118 // Lela Kitty Ring, $88 // Lovely Necklace, $88 // Tiny Bow Bracelet, $68 // Maddy Bangle, $148

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

• Spent quality time with my favorite cat

• Biked for Pacificos, chips and quac, and tacos at @bandit.tacos

• Loved how the rain collected on the Lady’s Mantle I planted last year

• Dipped my toes (quite literally) into this year’s mesh shoe trend

• Snapped a lot of Lily content

• Drove home with a new lilac in the passenger seat

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
