Bauble of the Week

March 10, 2013 by jessica Leave a Comment

I adore this dramatic necklace from Miu Miu, but the price is awfully prohibitive at $895. It looks like a DIY is in order with a chunky link necklace (this one?) and a pair of vintage earrings.

Friday Find Under $50

March 8, 2013 by jessica Leave a Comment

Zara flats, $49.90

On my previous blog, I had a weekly roundup called “Friday Finds Under $50.” I was fed up with magazines (ahem, Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue) insisting that anything under $500 was a style steal. My budget certainly doesn’t allow for that, so I wanted to work with a more realistic budget. There are great pieces at every price point if you have the patience to look for them. While I obviously couldn’t attest to the quality of the items in “Friday Finds,” I hoped that the weekly post would inspire readers to thoughtfully consider lower-priced items.

I stopped doing the post because it took a lot of time to put together a collage of five items under $50, but I just had to bring it back in some capacity when Emily mentioned on Twitter that she missed the feature. So, here’s the debut “Friday Find Under $50!”

  • Rose-colored sunglasses
  • A pretty floral cuff for $20 (in gold or cream)
  • A breezy dress that’s destined for the beach
  • This vintage pitcher

Sponsor Welcome: Julie Vos

March 6, 2013 by jessica Leave a Comment

I’m excited to introduce you to my latest jewelry crush and sponsor of Bedknobs & Baubles: Julie Vos. The relaxed elegance of her collection has me dreaming of a tropical escape, and the first thing I’d pack is the chalcedony ring featured above. She launched her collection of rich, wearable gems in 2006 and has since received national acclaim with features in magazines such as Real Simple (on the cover!) and Lucky. Julie’s line primarily features jewelry in gold tones and semi-precious stones, but has expanded to include scarves and clutches. While you’re browsing the site, you’ll discover that many of the items offer a variety of stone options, making it easy for you to find the perfect one.

Shop It: Catherine Bangle // Byzantine Cuff // Loire Stud // Amalia Ring // Diana Bracelet

All items featured above were gifted to me byJulie Vos. Her generosity does not influence my opinion of the brand.

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

• Spent quality time with my favorite cat

• Biked for Pacificos, chips and quac, and tacos at @bandit.tacos

• Loved how the rain collected on the Lady’s Mantle I planted last year

• Dipped my toes (quite literally) into this year’s mesh shoe trend

• Snapped a lot of Lily content

• Drove home with a new lilac in the passenger seat

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
