MAKE
These yogurt parfait popsicles are a glam summer update to the usual breakfast fare.

LEARN
Before you head out to celebrate today, learn more about The Star Spangled Banner.

DYE
Don’t dump that old dress in the donation pile just yet. Try this tie-dye technique to give it new life this summer. You could also try dying a tablecloth and napkins for a summer soiree.

SERVE
Pass on the potato chips and lighten up today’s meal with a blueberry, strawberry, and jicama salsa.

SAVE
Here’s a list of ten summer essentials to save on.

Pineapple Pendant

Lee-Renee-Pineapple-Pendant

Even though there was a shipping delay on my birthday gift this year, it was worth the wait. Dave surprised me with this Lee Renee pineapple pendant. I first fell in love with the piece with I interviewed the designer back in February of last year and had no idea I’d be spoiled with it months afterward. Isn’t it just the cutest thing? It’s tiny, as you can see in the stock images, but the attention to detail is wonderful and it has a nice weight to it. The solid silver piece is handmade in London with an 18k gold plate.

I don’t know if it’s Alissa’s infectious smile or her bubbly personality, but I, well, adore the gal behind The Adored Life. Alissa is a breath of fresh air with relatable anecdotes and plenty of darling (and affordable!) ensembles.

Refinery by Gerard Yosca

[dropcap custom_class=”normal”]F[/dropcap]ew things are more exciting than new jewelry, especially when those gems come in the form of hammered metal with thoughtfully placed rhinestones, as in the case of Gerard Yosca’s newest collection. Appropriately named “Refinery” the pieces are a bit more understated than seasons past, but they’re no less eye catching. I could go on and on about the collection, but I think you’ll agree that it’s more meaningful to hear from Gerard himself about his inspiration, his thoughts on the statement piece and, for fun, what’s on his holiday wish list.

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND REFINERY?
Time for a fashion reboot. Dress a little more simply and grownup. I wanted a collection that reflected a taste for quality. And, I’m still feeling a ’70s jet setter influence.

[spacer]

WHAT DO YOU SEE AS THE TRAJECTORY OF THE STATEMENT PIECE?
If everyone wears a big statement piece, all we see is noise. I love when someone stands out by dressing less obviously. Everything we say doesn’t require “!!!!!”. Save them for when you mean it. The big earring just feels particularly fresh right now.

[spacer]

HOW IS THE CHANGE IN SCALE REFLECTED IN THESE PIECES?
Most of the collection is really a lot smaller than a year ago! And I’ve used repetition of simple geometric shapes to make the pieces easy on the eyes.

FOR SOMEONE KNOWN FOR COLOR, WHY ALL METAL?
I thought I might be able to create pieces that would be grab and go if they were easier. I created the texture by hammering the metal with a ball tip I had filed down. Here, the texture really creates the interest that color would normally do.

[spacer]

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WINTER LOOK?
Cleaned up and polished as always, but for heaven’s sake, keep your sense of humor! Wear that scarf with jingle bells or a silly hat. We want a mix of sophistication and childlike joy.

[spacer]

WHAT IS ON YOUR HOLIDAY WISH LIST?
Time to really focus on hauling out all of the vintage Christmas decorations to deck the house.

CURRENTLY COVETING

I’m rarely a fan of pre-layered clothing, but I’m definitely crushing on this top. If you’re a high roller, you could pair it with Piperlime’s exclusive clutch. The first 100 orders receive free monogramming.

The last thing I need is a pair of smoking slippers for fall, but how cute are these? This necklace is also noteworthy with real malachite and lapis. Better yet, the price is an incredibly reasonable $68. Well done, C.Wonder.

This isn’t style-related in the slightest, but this recipe for kabobs was outstanding. I didn’t use a food processor, though. Mashing up the garlic and spices in a bowl worked just fine. I also added one teaspoon of cayenne. (I suppose if you wanted to make this sidebar more fashionable, you could consider this colorblock apron.)

Have you entered to win $150 to spend at KiraKira yet? No? Hop to it. There are travel-inspired jewels with your name on ‘em. Good luck!

It also inadvertently became the weekend I made Dave eat a cheeseburger every day, between @redhotranchchicago, @eatmottst, and @smallcheval. There are worst ways to spend a weekend.

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.
