I always get a kick of putting together this roundup and seeing how my recent purchases complement one another — especially when it’s nearly all a single color like it was over the past month! It’s not terribly surprising that this month was simple; I was focused on buying a few key basics for our upcoming trip to France.

Boden ‘Olympia’ jersey maxi dress – A black jersey maxi dress is the relaxed, summer version of a classic LBD and I anticipate I’ll wear this quite a bit during our trip. This version stands out due to its flattering, low V-neck (great for those with a smaller chest), fitted waist, and pockets. It runs true to size and the A-line drape offers enough room for hips.

Madewell ‘The Essential Curve’ shoulder bag – This bag is large — and that’s exactly what I wanted. I was looking for a bag that I could fit an umbrella and our DSLR in while sightseeing that wasn’t a mini backpack (even though I love mine). The bag feels like a quality piece and I’m hopeful that it’ll soften over time. The strap is generous enough to wear as a crossbody.

Lands’ End crepe swimsuit – I’ve already talked about this swimsuit and I won’t stop until others buy it. It’s so beautiful and flattering! It has full coverage in the back, the little cut out in front is such a great detail, and the crepe material is so much more unique than your typical swimsuit fabric. I tried it in the brown, too, and didn’t love it quite as much as the black.

East Fork ‘The Kulhad’ in Heron – East Fork added a new color to its core collection! “Heron” is a stunning grey-blue that I just want in all of the forms they offer. I’m starting small, though, and purchased a couple of the Kulhad cups in the new glaze. I figured that since the Kulhad is a limited in run in select glazes, I’d at least get those tucked in my cabinets and add other pieces in the coming years.

East Fork breakfast bowls in Big Sky – I’m such a fan of East Fork pottery. The pieces are thoughtfully designed and have a pleasant weight to them. I had been eyeing up the seasonal glaze Big Sky since it’s autumn debut and finally sprung for a set of six breakfast bowls before the color goes back into retirement to make way for spring glazes. It’s such a beautiful periwinkle shade that I’m thrilled to have in my slowly growing collection. (P.S. Sezane ‘Marzia’ shirt – Last year’s summer uniform was an oversized button down with shorts and it seems that this year won’t be much different now that I added this shirt to my wardrobe. It’s the perfect shade of green in a linen-cotton blend with embroidered insets to make it far more interesting than a typical shirt. Plan to go down a size or two as it runs large.

Braised by Jenny Goycochea-Marker – Jenny’s coconut braised beef recipe is one of our absolute favorites. It’s genuinely restaurant-quality and I daydream about it more often than I should. Since it’s been such a hit, I wanted to support her by purchasing her cookbook. Everything looks amazing, so I’ll be cooking my way through it this year.

Tuckernuck ‘Nina’ flats in oxblood – If you’ve been around here for awhile, you know how much I love a ballet flat. The higher, almond-shaped vamp on these give them an updated silhouette. They run true to size, but I did have to add a heel pad like this to keep them from slipping.

Diane von Furstenberg ‘Didi’ wrap dress – I’ve always been fond of DVF dresses due to their figure-flattering shapes and vibrant patterns, but they’ve been missing from my closet over the past few years. Looking back, I’m sure that has a lot to do with the pandemic when I lost touch with my personal style. I’ve been rediscovering my love of getting dressed again, which has left me feeling lackluster about my existing wardrobe — especially in terms of workwear. On my search for fit-and-flare jersey dresses, I came across the “Didi” dress on The Outnet and immediately ordered it. It’s a shirtdress-meets-wrap style so you still have the waist-cinching (and size accommodating) benefit of a wrap, but it eliminates the worry of the top gaping open. I love it so much that I wanted another one and saw the pattern above on the DVF site — which was on sale, but sold out online before I was able to buy it. Fortunately, an incredibly helpful sales associate at the New York flagship store was able to locate one and ship it to me.

Schoolhouse ‘Owen’ side table – I actually purchased this side table right before Christmas during Schoolhouse’s generous holiday sale. I found myself coming back to it over and over to admire the industrial-inspired design and saturated enameled colors. Beyond that, I feel like small moveable tables are always useful to have around. The table comes flat-packed for self-assembly. The center tube has two channels that steel rods go through to connect the base to the top, so it ends up being really sturdy.

Amazon chunky gold hoops – I’ve been debating this pair of Mejuri earrings for a few months now, but I don’t really need another pair of chunky earrings. I talked myself out of them, only to come across this $10 pair on Amazon that are a decent dupe. The dimensions are almost identical and the Amazon pair claims to be sterling silver (which I have doubts about). The gold plating is pretty light and they look more silver than gold sometimes.

Margaux ‘The Demi’ in silver – When my favorite ballet flats were on sale, how could I say no to the silver version that I had been eyeing up? This color does run a bit smaller than my other pairs. I’m not sure if they’ll stretch out as much with additional wear. I’ll report back.

Danner ‘Arctic 600’ winter boots – If you’re in need of a truly practical winter boot, look no further. These are supremely comfortable, waterproof, and have excellent traction. Obviously, you’d want to buy a taller boot if you think you’ll be traipsing through deep snow, but for less accumulation or shoveled surfaces, these are well worth the money.

• Boden ‘Emilia’ cardigan in red – This is one of Boden’s new arrivals and I purchased it as soon as it was available. It arrived earlier this week — just in time to wear it for the holidays. (Plus, the University of Wisconsin’s colors are cardinal and white, so it’s basically workwear.) I went a size up so that I could wear it buttoned up without a layer underneath without worrying about any gaps at the placket.
• Margaux “The Demi” in red – I already have these ballet flats in two colors and have been really happy with how comfortable they are and how well they wear. They’re a splurge, but they’re my go-to work shoe.
• Undo Hairware No. 2 Claw Clip (red and brown) – I bought a couple of these back in July and use them frequently enough that I figured I’d get use out two more colors in rotation. They’re such nice quality.
• Lands’ End oxford stripe sheets (navy) – I was sick last month and coughing a lot at night. I didn’t want to keep Dave up, so I slept in the guest room. The guest bed had a set of Ralph Lauren cotton sheets I bought on sale over a decade ago when we had a queen bed. I had planned to use them on our bed at the time, but we upgraded to a king before I ever had the chance. After one night’s sleep on the queen bed, I hated how stiff and scratchy the sheets were and immediately placed an order for these oxford sheets that we also have on our bed. They get softer with each wear.
• All Modern artificial juniper wreath – This wreath has such a nice mix of different faux foliage that gives it a nice texture and doesn’t look as cheap as some artificial wreaths do.
• Sezane ‘Lauren’ jumper (navy) – This is yet another item that I have in another color and loved enough to buy another. I bought it in grey back in October and wear it all the time. The sweater has a nice heft to it where it feels like it’s high quality, and it doesn’t pill very much. (As with all sweaters, it will pill, but it’s easy to fix with a sweater comb.)
• West Elm offset stripe pillow (camel/red) – I thought this was such a nice way to add some holiday cheer to our living room without being a full-on holiday throw pillow.
• J.Crew rhinestone earrings (crystal) – J.Crew always nails it with their rhinestone holiday earrings. These are incredibly sparkly and lightweight. Plus, the crystal version is only $9.50 right now!
• Quail Ceramics owl salt and pepper shakers – I realize these are so ridiculous, but I couldn’t help myself. They’re quirky and charming! I’m tucking them away to use at a future Thanksgiving table setting.
