Bauble of the Week

November 3, 2013 by jessica Leave a Comment

Kate Spade’s holiday collection was released last week and, as always, everything is so darn cute. There’s a champagne bottle coin purse, a floral-print scarf I’ll probably buy, and this unbelievable necklace. One look at the rhinestone ribbon put me in a festive mood. Bring on the egg nog, tinsel and Bing Crosby, STAT.

Giveaway: JewelMint

April 8, 2013 by jessica Leave a Comment

My week is always brighter with a new piece of jewelry, so I’m especially thrilled to bring you a giveaway from a beloved site: JewelMint.

JewelMint is a free, members-only site with personalized recommendations based on your style profile. Every piece is priced at $29.99, making it an affordable way to add a bit of luxury to your wardrobe (and I assure you that they look pricey in person). As an added bonus, first-time purchasers can get two pieces for the price of one with this link.

The pieces that JewelMint sent over for me to try are gorgeous and I’m so excited to see what you pick out! Three lucky ladies will each win an item of her choice. To enter, all you need to do is register for JewelMint and tell me what you love from your personal showroom. As always, there are bonus entries for supporting Bedknobs & Baubles. Good luck!

Review: Stella Valle Earrings

January 23, 2013 by jessica Leave a Comment

Let’s get this out of the way right now: I love these earrings. I first learned of Stella Valle earlier this month and admired the brand’s mix of feminine details with strong, masculine elements. This pair of earrings showcases the strong Art Deco influence of its latest collection.

The earrings retail for $125 and are definitely worth the investment. They’re well made and each of the earrings are adorned with 11 attention-grabbing, rhinestone baguettes.

One word of warning: the earrings are heavy. I actually switched out the standard earring back in favor of a plastic disc backing to distribute the weight evenly and prevent drooping. With that simple switch, they’re comfortable for all-day wear. (One of my irrational fears is becoming an old woman with drooping earlobes. Given how much I love big earrings, it’s a very real concern!)

You can learn a bit more about the brand here, where you’ll also find details for a giveaway!

Bauble of the Week

December 16, 2012 by jessica Leave a Comment

Rhinestone ribbons loop around to create this stunning cocktail ring from Chloe + Isabel. New Year’s Eve is fast approaching (can you believe it?) and your champagne toast will be much more dazzling with this ring atop your finger.

Review: Alilang Jewelry

December 14, 2012 by jessica Leave a Comment

The holidays are the perfect excuse to pile on the baubles (also my M.O. for the Christmas tree) and purchase new gems. I try to stick to a single new standout piece each season, but I’m easily tempted along the way – especially when it comes to affordable ways to upgrade a look. Alilang is a must-visit resource for jewelry that won’t blow your December budget.

Shopping at Alilang can be a little overwhelming; there are a lot of options to choose from. The time it takes to sift through everything is worthwhile, though. I’m very happy with the quality of the items Alilang sent over for me to try (above). Unlike some other ultra-affordable retailers, the rhinestones are secure and the pieces are free of that telltale metallic smell of a cheap piece. Of the items I tried, the crystal cluster necklace is my favorite. It’s versatile and looks more expensive than $25.

Have you tried anything from Alilang? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Shop It: Bow Ring // Crystal Necklace // Floral Necklace // Owl Ornament

P.S. Head over to La vie…J’aime today to see what I’d like to find in my stocking!

Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until la Our guest room wasn’t a design priority until late last year when we finally bought a bed, mattress, and a set of sheets. We used some of our own extra bedding (tucking in the generous overhang of our king blankets under the queen-sized mattress) and old bedside lamps from our bedroom: functional, but not quite the charming space I’d envisioned.

That started to change when I purchased the Popcorn Grid Coverlet from Schoolhouse — an item I’d been eyeing for years — plus some graphic floral pillows. Then came a bright blue round cushion and the sweetest Teig lamp, both generously gifted by Schoolhouse, and the room finally started to come together. Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hi Growing up in northern Wisconsin, lilacs always hit peak bloom right around my birthday on May 30. My mom would fill a large crystal vase with fresh-cut stems, and their scent would waft through the house.

Now that I live a few hours south and lilac season wraps up earlier, the blooms actually mark the start of my birthday month.

I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog I’m challenging myself to get through a backlog of travel photos before we book our next trip. First up, photos of the gothic York Minster. I’m not religious in the slightest but I can’t resist stunning architecture and the opportunity to climb hundreds of cathedral stairs for a city view. This one only had a single rest stop about halfway up the flight of 275 steps for a closeup view of the flying buttresses — and a waiver you had to sign before your ascent to promise you’re healthy enough to make it.
